I do have a family history of BC but not OC. Sadly all the BC relatives have already passed away.
I feel a bit angry because when I had the excision biopsy of a lump 2 years ago which turned out to be benign, I specifically asked that surgeon to send me for testing. He would not; said I needed a first degree relative ( sister , mother, daughter) and preferably one that was still alive. I pushed him but he was quite dismissive about it.
Needless to say I have seen a different surgeon this time ; he is a most wonderful man, neither he nor his anaesthetist have charged me a gap . They work in a dedicated Breast Unit and there is lots of support and the staff are fabulous. I also didnt want radiotherapy and was lucky enough with all the aspects of the tumour( very small, very circumscribed ) and negative lymph node that I won't need it. Both he and the oncologist think there is a high level of suspicion but I guess it's all conjecture until the test is done. And if its positive i'll be walking straight in to book my hysterectomy and oophorectomyASAP. In the US now they recommend anyone (even without fam history ) under 60 gets tested for BRCA if they're TN .
Back on the dexamethasone for the chemo tomorrow so I might be up awhile .....sweet dreams to you though :)
