This is my story so far:
On 4 July 2014, when I had been back from my annual holiday to Crete for one week, I did a casual breast self-examination. I was a bit shocked to find a pea-sized lump in my left breast. There had never been anything there before and I'd had a clear screening mammogram less than 12 months prior.
My 22mm Grade 3 early breast cancer was diagnosed quickly and removed by lumpectomy on 6 August 2014. There was a surrounding area of DCIS (about 30mm) but the margins as well as the nodes were clear. The tumour was ER+++, PR+ and HER-. I started a 6 week FEC-D chemo regime on 11 Sept 2014. The FEC100 side-effects weren't too bad (or, if they were, I've put it out of my mind) - although I did have a 9-day hospital stay for high temps and what turned out to be pneumonia.
After a week of being very sick at home and another 4-day hospital stay for Docetaxel side-effects, instead of my final 2 Docetaxel over 6 weeks I'll be having a weekly Carboplatin/Paclitaxel regime. Then a rest, then 30 doses of radiation over 6 weeks. Then a well-deserved holiday.
