Just been diagnosed with phyllodes tumour with a sarcoma in the middle malignant of course. Is there anyone else out there as I am told both are rare . Just my luck tossing up between lumpectomy and ...
after undergoing the first surgery and finding out the results - malignant PT, my surgeon suggested mastectomy, but i insisted for another lumpectomy with wider margins. i just couldn't accept the fact of losing one breast if it could still be 'preserved'. the discovery of having a malignant PT was already traumatic. i have done a lot of research, consulted with my medical colleagues and cancer specialist friends before I made this decision.
After carefully examining my breast shape/size and working out how best he could do a wider margin without drastically deforming my breast, my surgeon agreed but gave me warning that if it recurs - i will have to opt for mastectomy.
this happened in oct(1st)and nov (2nd) 2012 and so far, i havent had any recurrence yet. i'm due for another checkup next month, and i hope all is clear!
