New Boob Feels Much Better

Hi Everyone, Hope this all finds you well :)

I've been thinking of posting for a few days now, but my mind was still a little foggy from my operation on Tuesday.

Got my tissue expander pulled out (YIPPEEEE!) & my silicone implant put in. Was in hospital for 24hrs approx & thank goodness It wasnt longer coz I did not enjoy my stay this time & just wanted to get home & rest, LOL.

Have been pretty good actually, minimal pain (but still constent that i need pain drugs.) No napping during the day, but resting ALOT. Gone for my walks everyday (which i recommend to everyone no matter where abouts in ur treatment plan you are) The breast feels so much better, even tho i am bruised from surgery and still in pain it looks and feels so much better. So once pain is gone should not even notice it anymore. They didnt do anything to my remaining breast yet & still no nipple. So more surgery for me & then every 10 years for the rest of my life to change the implant. ( thats if technology doesnt change)

My name was in the Beacon this issue re: financial hardship so that cheered me up on Wednesday :)

I cant wait for October, for breast cancer awareness month & I'm doing so many great things with so many lovely ladies i've met this yr. I also go back for my 6 monthly checkup & gotta get more tests done & gotta ask more questions about my condition. So gonna be a full on month.

Still not looking forward to going back to work & think this has really made me realise retail isnt for me. So need to find a new job. :)

Also got to become part of a Gym to get my strength back. Thinking about paying for a personal trainer but also going to look into the YWCA Encore gentle excercise program designed for people after breast cancer surgery. If anyone has heard about anything else in Melbourne area to do with excercise let me know :)

Also want to say how fantastic the living centre in Melbourne is. I have been there a couple of times now & everytime I've left feeling fantastic. They do so much for people diagnosed with breast cancer have a look at their website if you havent already.  http://www.thinkpink.org.au/living-centre

I think that was all I had to say, like I said still a little foggy & ive had quiet a big day today, so may type more later.

Also I just wanna say Good Luck to my girl Joadavis for her FINAL Chemo on Tuesday .... WOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!! U go Girl, I know its been a hard struggle & I know you have heaps more treatments left, but your 1 treatment down now... So proud of you, you are so beautiful & such an inspiration.... :)

  • Goodmorning Merylee,

So glad to hear your swap over went well (silicon feels awsome dosn't it!). If you can get an experienced personal trainer, that's a good way to go, I got one to do up a program a couple of weeks back and I nearly have my full flexibility back in my arms and I can now jog 5km in under 37minutes (Hell I could never do that pre bc so to be doing that now kinda surprises me). Have you also considered Dragonsabreast? I went to meet my local team on Friday and am looking at starting with them next week. This time off work gives us time to re-evaluate where we are in life and what we want to acheive. I too work in retail, I am indifferent to going back into my current role so have decided to push for being returned eventually to a role I have always been more passionate about. You need to have passion and enjoy your job or else it makes living pretty bland. Well take care, I wish you a speedy recovery.

    Regards

    Kim

    PS: Bring on PINKTOBER!!!!!

  • Dear Ann-Marie

Oh yes I know for the last few weeks my tissue expander annoyed me soooo much. it was like it knew it was leaving me so it annoyed me as much as possible.

Dont have much movement restrictions like last time. and no physio :(

Thats just me though, thru my hospital, yours might be different.

It was great meeting u the other day too, anyway gotta go, just a quick hello.!

    Hi Merylee

I'm so glad all went well for your surgery- have been thinking about you all week.  You sound like you are recovering really well, Just make sure you don't overdo things.  Do you have restrictions with your arm movement? Has a hospital physio given you exercises to follow?

The closer I get to surgery the more my tissue expander annoys me. I can't wait to be rid of it - so it's good to hear the recon feels so much better.

It was great to meet you at 'Think Pink', hope to catch up with you around the traps another time soon.

Take care and look after yourself

    Ann-Marie xx

  • Tissue expanders can be very uncomftable & annoying at times, So for like 3 months just try to be patient. But end result is great! It will all be worth it :)

Good luck with your surgery :) & thank you for your reply! Great to know when someone reads my essays lol...

& take a blondfold and earplugs to the hospital if u dont already have them packed lol...

  • Hi Sillysam, it was great to read about your new boobs, and how comfortable they feel. In 2.5 weeks I'm having tissue expanders put in and was very interested to know how the new silicone one feels for you. I'm also having a prophylactic mastecomy at the same time, so will have 2, hopefully the same size. I have looked at all options for reconstruction, but am now very happy with my choice of implants. The other types of reconstruction look great, but the length of surgery time really freaks me out. Being only a size B cup size, I think I will be very happy with the result, and like you I expect to have nipples made a few months after the silicone goes in. Thanks for your post. Chris xx
