Neoadjuvant Chemo

I was diagnosed with a node positive invasive DC 9 weeks ago and was started on neoadjuvant chemo a week later. I will be having chemo until Feb next year then have surgery and radio therapy. I live in a rural area and am finding that no one else locally has been offered this treatment. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had neoadjuvant chemo and if it was worth it. It's a little strange knowing that the cancer is still there and being able to see and feel it everyday.
  • Hi Polly Rose, I had my second cycle of neoadjuvant chemo yesterday. it does feel strange when most people around you have already had their operations, but I've been told there are plenty more just like us. best wishes, anne
  • Hi there, welcome to this wonderful site

I had chemo, 6 rounds 3weeks apart. I had a very large tumor in left breast and the chemo shrunk it down to 3.5cm so I could have a better chance at surgery which was a bi lateral mastectomy. It did feel strange at first but I actually watched with great happiness the slow shrinkage of death to my tumor.

    Take care, and good luck

  • Just wanted to say that I am so sorry that you have been diagnosed with this wretched disease. I did not have neoadjuvant chemo but know that there have been a few ladies who have had treatment in this order. There are advantages to doing chemo first as I am sure your doctors have explained. Be reassured that this can work well and I hope that some ladies who have had chemo before surgery share their experiences with you. Wishing you all the best (I had 6 doses of chemo last year) and please let us know how you go. This network is a great way to get support from others who understand the unique experiences that we all share. Take care. Deanne xxx
  • Hi Polly Rose, I am about to start adjuvant chemo tomorrow. I am also from a rural area. Good luck. Unlike you, I have already had 2 operations. Everyone is different, every tumour is different. I'm sure your oncologist has a reason for doing your treatment this way. I hope all goes well
