Hi Chris,
Thank you for sharing your story with me. I hope you are recovering OK. How long will you be in hospital? My mammogram did not pick up my cancer either-it was the ultrasound that found the abnormality. What is a level 1 lymph node clearance? I only had a sentinnel node-3 taken and all clear. My tumour was 16mm grade 1 so I guess that is why I wasn't told that I should have a masectomy. I am ER & PR + and HER2- I think. ( My memory is not like it was since Chemo-somehow I don't think it will ever be the same again). I feel like it is time to now take control and get some more facts. I am very interested in diet and exercise as I am a sugar addict! Also love my tea and coffee and just can't get used to that green stuff. I am trying to fit in 1/2 hour of walking into my day although haven't the past couple of weeks. I think this online site is great and very informative. No one else can understand all the emotions you are going through unless they've been there.
I was told that radiotherapy and surgery was just as effective as a masectomy and that is why I went ahead with the lumpectomy. I had no idea at the time that if I was to have a masectomy later on down the track that my reconstruction options would be limitited due to radiotherapy. At the time I made my decision I was also unaware that radiotherapy may cause a recurrence.
I would love to hear how you go with your recovery. Are the tissue expanders pumped up gradually(that may be a poor choice of words) and will they be able to match the other breast?
Love
