Need Advice

I rang my unit today and got some more information on Taxotere. They apparently do not use the gloves???? and yes it is recommended to use dark coloured nail polish!!!!

I will receive the pack when I go down.

I would not have known about the nail polish or gloves if it wasn't for this network.

Thank goodness for the network I can't speak highly enough of it, just reading where someone used the Cancer Council Meditation and relaxation CD's I rang them today and couldn't believe that they will send them out free of charge....how good is that and all the other services that they can supply if you need it.........we certainly are not alone, if feel sorry for fellow sufferers that do not use the internet and are out of town as they wouldn't know about a lot of the hints that I have been lucky enough to pick up from so many on this network and feel like I have so many friends now.

When I had my chemo I just used the nail hardner which came in the Taxol pack seemed to work along with the freezing gloves Leonie mentioned. Only thing I noticed about my nails were ridges all over them. All grown out now - finished chemo in Dec.

I usually buy a bottle of nail polish around christmas time and that seems to be the only time I have nails long enough to paint. But at the moment my nails are the longest they have ever been. I try to remember to put gloves on to wash up but I am seriously hopeless.

I was given a gift voucher from work for a nail place so thought I would have them do it for me on Friday when my sister is coming up from the coast for the weekendand we are having a girlie day.

You didn't say what colour your nails are????

One of the girls from work brought me a navy blue and black nail polish today.

Do you have your first Taxotere on Friday? If so good luck will be thinking of you.

I went to work yeesterday and today just for the morning, I was not feeling very well yesterday and was so pleased to get home but enjoyed it today.

PS can I borrow your lovely neighbour!!!!

I have a lovely neighbour who did my nails and has been coming to give me foot and hand massages - very relaxing.  I am not a nails person.  I have to admit to needing the fingers redone already a week later as I have chipped them quite a bit but I am not used to polish on my nails.  She bought the colours - I think the brand is OPI.

I don't know if my unit does have the frozen gloves.....they are a mine of information for me............not!!!!!!!

Hi Amanda, I hope when I have the manicure that they may have some suggestions that will make it look not plain black yours sounds so nice, did you have it done professionally or did you buy it?

I will go black I think but when I have the manicure will see if they can make it pretty with something like Amanda has done.

I am sure that my daughter in law will be jealous!!!!!!

A good thick clear undercoat then as dark as you can go.

The darker the better apparantly yes as Amanda has said it stops the UV rays from breaking down the nail bed. I have bought a chocolate brown that dries quickly, didnt want black but the shimmer over the to that Amanda suggests sounds pretty.

I bought a brand called revitanail its costly but suppose to be good, goes on very easily. I am not a nail person, so something new for me.

I have been told Black or dark brown or maroon.  I believe it is to block the UV so the darker the better. I guess you could put any colour over the top.  I have black with silver shatter on mine. :-)
