Nearly finished, YAY!

We had a 'short' week last week for radiation treatment, but instead of enjoying the extra days home - yours truly went down with a major dose of the flu (yuk!)  Not even worthy of a blog discussion, just put it down to those cold mornings here!   Fortunately the doc gave me some strong antibiotics and I am on the road to recovery.  Well my dear friends, today we drove back to our accommodation for the final week of radiation treatment - the machine broke down half way through treatment a couple of weeks ago, so we will have to come back on Monday -  we are going to do the 'return' trip just for the day - but a full week here this week - each day goes by and I can feel the excitement grow! I can't wait until we can go home and not live out of that suitcase - Gee, I thought we were bad with all the crap we drag here to the accomodation - but we see others when we arrive on a Monday morning, walking in loaded up with their own pillows (hate hospital pillows), blankes, cases, laptops, four-seasons worth of clothes, our own kettles, mugs, eskies full of a weeks frozen food, a couple of bottles of chardy and even televisions! (the ones here are up on the wall and you get a crick in your neck trying to see the tiny screen!) so we too, along with others have darted out and purchased a little flat screen to sit on the bench and not get 'boss-eyed' looking at it!  Each week we take more stuff home, each week we cart more up here.....and each week we pass eachother loaded up in the corridors laughing at how none of us have any bloody idea what 'travelling light' means!  To add more crap to cart home, we find ourselves going to the 'factory outlets' to 'stock up' on cheap tucker, or just go to the big stores to buy stuff we can't get home - Yep! car loaded to the hilt again!  We have met a couple here, and they are the loveliest people, they have to drive way way further than us and I have never heard them complain.  So am really excited about this part of the saga being completed - get some kind of 'normality' into our lives again!   Hugs to all x x x

    I really don't know how you moved house during chemo.You'll probably look back and it will be all a blur.I miss my bed,my computer and my stuff in general as it's all in lock up.My daughter and her partner are very easy to live with but we feel like we are the kids on our best behaviour and they are the parents.We get the keys to our new home on 14th sept.-can't wait. I hope you are recovering in leaps and bounds and that you feel well enough to enjoy your new home too.

    Oh Tonya, glad to see you back! Yes isn't moving fun! Cant wait to go home tomorrow and enjoy our home that we only movied into a couple of months ago remember? Yes, moving and chemo - mmmmm, that was fun! Cant complain though it went very well.  So lets know how you go with your new place, exciting isn't it! x x x Josie

    Hi Maria! Thank you for your lovely post - well tomorrow is the last radiation!  The radiologist realised that we had to come back on the Monday for a 'round trip' and organised me to have a 'Saturnday morning' treatment - what this means is that I get to have my 'final' treatment in the morning and we can drive straight home WOOHOO! 

    We have met some really lovely people here at Rotary House and made new friends - the staff have been lovely.  The cleaning lady just came and gave me a big 'goodbye' hug as she wont be on shift tomorrow - how sweet......Some the radiation staff have been lovely too - I mean they are all pretty nice, just some of them are really really nice!  I have been walking around sick as a dog the past day or so, soon as my antibiotics ran out, my flu came back with a vengeance!  So hubby went up to the chemist and got my repeat filled.  The radiology nurse told me that because I was getting 'radiation zaps', my immune system was really, really low  - Yup, found that out!  So have been 'dragging' myself around, sniff, sniff, sneeze, cough wheeze blek! 

    My oncololgist saw me this morning and agreed I needed surgery on my face as a little skin cancer has popped up (bloody thing disappeared when I had chemo) no its back again - just a 'rough' bit of 'itchy' skin on the bottom of my cheek - but I knew right away what it was so no biggie.

    Well ladies, I am so glad this bit is over - I have to say its gone quickly (thank goodness) but am so fed up.  I have to say I am sorry for the ones that have to have 35+ sessions.......so knowing that I have had to 'pull my head in' and not complain........

    Joy I just love reading your blogs - you always put a smile on my face and many times a giggle. Sometimes there has been tears as i have followed your blog. The long long journeys.

     You are so full of live - the party in Tassie sounds fantasic- get strong so you can party all night.

    Hey Kathy, last night my husband and I were talking about when we would visit Tasmania - and we both ended up totally agreeing on one thing! Why bloody wait?!  I will get my Herceptin dates from my doctor and we plan to come over in February, why February you ask? Well it probably the warmest - and its my 60th Birthday - I can't see my kids dropping everything and coming to Victoia for my big six-oh, so why not take the trip then?  I can't wait! Hubby and I really feel like we DESERVE a big break and he's never been over to the apple isle, and I left there in 1973!  The old house is gone in Wynyard, but my late Mother's little kiosk is still by the beach......I know things would have changed but I am so excited, we are going all around and going to take two weeks to do it.....so you better have that cuppa ready when we drop in (if that's ok!) - and guess what, only tomorrow and Friday.....plus another return trip on Monday and radiotherapy is finished.....lucky it has gone quickly, and it helps when you go and treat yourself to a massive dose of serious reatail therapy as I did this arvo (he he) x x x

    wow thats great i am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy for you, stay well not long now, it is such a milestone when we finish treatment, and a shock it's like what now??? but wer'e here so keep in touch.
