Nausea from radiation

Just wondering if anyone out there has experienced nausea from radiation treatment to the chest wall and lymph node area (under arms)?

I have had 7 treatments so far (18 to go) and started feeling  nauseous on Friday, then sick on Saturday and still not quite right today.  I'm hoping it might be just a bug rather than side effect of radiation.

I had radiation treatment previously (10 sessions) to my upper back and right hip area with no nausea.

  • Hi Amy,

Glad you got some tablets to take, but maybe the kiddies are the culprits after all.  There is a lot of nasties going around at the moment.

    Hope your feeling better.

  • Amy, i forgot to mention that i was put onto steriods, that were meant to give me an appetite, but generally made me feel like crap. That might be the problem if your on them... under medico advise i stopped taking them.

But definitley get some professional opinions in addition to our advise here.

  • Hi Amy,

I dont recall having nausea when I had my treatments (25).  Speak with your radiation nurses - I found them to be a godsend - they know everything!

Dont suffer in silence - thats what all these medico's are for, use them all to your advantage.

    Good luck

  • Hi Amy, I have had 6 sessions of radiation with 19 more to go.  I too was very tired on last weekend and felt really unwell even up until yesterday.  I have put it down to not keeping to my gluten-free diet.  It is very hard being away from home and living with others.  Maybe you are still trying to do your normal stuff.  Unfortunately whilst on radiation we all need to slow down and have lots of rest.  I am finding that I need lots more rest this time.  Four years ago when I had treatment I was superwoman and exercised vigorously each day and felt really well.  However the tiredness crept up on me and I ended up in the hospital at the end of treatment.  This time around of course I am 4 years older and lots of changes have happened to my body in that time.  As the other girls have suggested get it checked out if it persists - in the meantime be kind to yourself.
