Name of tests please

Hi LibbyA.  I’m getting results from the OncotypeDX test next week.  Your Oncologist will be able to advise the best option for your case.  Unfortunately there appears to be no Medicare or Health Fund Rebate.  I’ve just paid AUD $5K.  A lot in out of pocket, but I felt worth it.  It’s frustrating though that this cost means many women can’t afford.  I think some other brands of test are cheaper. Take care.

If estrogen only positive you may be talking about oncotype dx testing which determines if your cancer is likely to teturn. Unfortunately you have to pay for it.

If its triple neg or her2 chemo is always iffered.

That is Tuesday so wanting all the info I can get to ask the right questions.

So, I wonder if the tumour has to be under 2cm. That isn’t mentioned from what I saw. I had 3.8cm and under 3 mm in the sentinal node only.

Hi @LibbyA. If you are referring to genomic tests, they go by a range of names based on the brand. There are a number, applicable to different scenarios. Some doctors rate some of them higher than others. I had Endopredict, which was applicable to me because my tumour was under 2cms and there was no spread to the lymph nodes.

They test the slicecof your tumour that is kept in storage somewhere as is standard. I'm not sure how long they keep them for but at least five years I believe.
