My Story
Just wanted to share my story & hopefully give a bit back. I was diagnosed at 37 just 9 months after my one and only daughter was born. This also being the same month 2 of my sisters were diagnosed with ovarian cancer. After loosing a grandmother to breast an aunty to bowel & a mother to breast cancer my sisters & I were genetically tested and go figure yes we had BRACA 1. I had a lumpectomy with chemo & radiotherapy and survived unforturnately my sisters did not. At the age of 39 made the decision to have a full hesteretomy needed to be here for my daughter. At 40 found another lump same breast then decided to have masectomy and another round of chemo. Well I am still here going strong had a reconstruction 18 months ago. Have had a couple of close friends with breast cancer and was able to lend a support to them that a lot can't give as you know what they are going through & feeling. I now have a brother who has prostrate cancer he is a long way from me but if anyone wants a hear to bend or a should to lean on I would like to be there for you. I will be 50 in a few weeks thanks to a postive mind I am here to celebrate it.
Update on my story. My brother passed away 6th June, 2012 and later that year my great nephew was diagnosised with Ependymoma (Brain Tumor) wrapped around his stem cell.
After surgeries, chemo & radium he is off tomorrow to battle it again another round of chemo with hopefully surgery in a few weeks.
I am off to walk in the Relay for Life on the Gold Coast. Just want to give a bit back.
