My new look!
Finally I am feeling semi normal again.
It's been a week since the mastectomy and to be honest, i'm feeling pretty good. My scar will be 1 fine line, and apart from that my chest is now just completely flat. Once the scar heals it will pretty much just look like a boob never grew there. Which is fine by me, because yesterday I got the final pathology results from my nodes (they took 15) and the mastectomy and there was 'no sign of any disease.' ANYWHERE! Can you believe it?? Kel and I had decided that 'good news' would have been that the nodes were clear, but the rest of my breast had disease. My surgeon was also expecting this. But NO! No disease at all! I think that this news is still only just sinking in ... having had the mastectomy my chances of a recurrence are now a lot lower (if I hadn't, my chances of a recurrence were 50%) so I am now proudly looking at this scar, with the knowledge that it has allowed me to live. And live with much better chances of living longer.
I guess all of us women going through this get there in the end ... what a terrible journey it's been for me so far. It's a terrible disease. But I'm pretty proud that I got up every morning and tried my best to remain positive.
I really hope that all of the wonderful people working hard to find a cure get there some day. I don't wish this experience on anyone. But I have certainly had a life changing couple of weeks.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me. I'm by no means 'all good' yet but im a lot better than where i was.
