Today I was diagnosed with breast cancer and have an app with the surgeon tomorrow today has been a day of the ups m downs I have ever experienced,having to tell all the kids n my mum was the hardest but trying hard to stay positive as well very numb not sure what is ahead which I think is the scary thing

Hello It is absolutely normal to have all these mixed emotions and to be scared. None of us expect this to happen but as you can see from the BCNA forum there are many of us here who are have been through a similar situation. All I can say is, take someone with you to your appointments, never be afraid to ask lots of questions and surround yourself with lots of positive people including family and friends. Hi there. I bet you are feeling numb and terrified at the same time, I know I was. JoanneD's advice was spot on. I'd also like to add...be kind to yourself. You will have bad days, we all do, but you are not alone. Don't give yourself a hard time or expect to be on top of the situation all of the time, you won't be. Find a good listener, this site is good for that, and vent.Good Luck and keep us posted with your progress.

I was really scared after being diagnosed & I didn't know what to expecti, it is a horrible feeling & I really feel for you....try & take one day at time, stay positive, & take a support person with you to your appointments especially tomorrow,I took my Hubby to all my apps, so glad I did as he remembered things I didn't... You will also find there are a lot of lovely ladies on here with lots of great information,advice stories & support ...you can also order the my journey kit from bcna..it is full of information & has a diary which I found very handy......as Joanne said you are not alone this network is here for all... It is full of unknowns in the beginning,but as you move along,and begin to get your plan for treatment,you will start to feel more in control.Try to remember,that these days,breast cancer is very treatable,and most women go on to live long healthy lives.I felt EXACTLY like you in the beginning,but once I had that appointment with the surgeon,I began to feel a bit better.As Christine said,take someone with you,as there is so much information,and you WONT remember.It really is a good idea to write it down also.I took my daughter with me,and at that first appointment,she had a little notebook and jotted everything down.So just take things one day at a time at the moment,and as soon as you know what treatment you will be having,you can come back on here and let us know,and the ladies on here will be able to give the best advice as to what you may need to purchase,or start to do,to prepare yourself the best way that you can.Take care.xoxRobyn

Just wondering if anyone else has felt like this I am due for my results after my op the end of next week but I am finding myself wondering what if what if the results are so bad my bcn keeps saying keep positive for most of the time I am but sometimes it creeps up on my from either something I have watched on TV or something on Facebook. I am petrified of my results my hubby who is fantastic just keeps saying it will b fine we don't know that but we also don't know it wont be I'm so frustrated.

So 24 hours after surgery now not feeling too bad bit of a bad start but ok today, had prob with not being able to catch breath last night so due to having a pe before it was off to the er last night after only being home for half a day, bp was very elevated 189/98 so naturally they thought that's what was wrong but after 7 long hours in a recliner got the all clear to go home. With a follow up with gp tomorrow to make sure I am not brewing up a chest infection. Now I have to wait 2 wks for results to see what therapy I will have can't believe how long things take, am surprised how well I do feel not much pain more bruising pain if that makes sense lol

So this week has been chest X-rays bloods, liver ultrasound another visit to surgeon and met with breast care nurse Brenda who was lovely. All tests came back great now the next step is on the 29th April I go to john hunter hospital in Newcastle for some radiation stuff they insert to see where the cancer may be back home ( 2 hr) trip each way. On the 30 th in for lump removal then wait about 1-2 wks for those results to see what the next step is, as we live in a country town the only available here is chemo we have to travel for radio. Right now today we are to do some camping and r n r hope you all have a great Easter

Hi. yes, mine was every day Mon-Fri for 6 weeks. I was very lucky, the side effects were minor. I was well enough to drive 300km home after my Fri treatment and then drive back in time for a Mon afternoon appt. That way I got to be home each weekend.

I so remember those early days, I was numb and in denial I think. My advice is to take one day at a time, don't get ahead of things don't try and not to plan as everything changes along the way.

Your treatment plan is dependant on your tumour results and that is after your surgery usually once they have your pathology results.

I know its hard but just try and let go if you can and go with it.

How often did u have it I read somewhere 6 wks but every day is this true or does it depend on each case ??

I wouldn't be worried about feeling sick with radiation , that's more a chemo thing to my knowledge. Radiation is just like having a strong x-ray, everyday. I had 6 weeks of treatment and only had a bit of redness, some itchiness and some tiny blisters. The dr prescribed a cream and all was good. It was just like bad sunburn.Good Luck.

Thanks so much my hubby will b with me n I have a very supportive friend n family group. I am trying one day at a time but hoping for some kind of answers today with such a strong family history of breast cancer I am staying as positive as I can Thanks again I really appreciate it Lee xo
