My diagnosis
Today I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my right breast..
At this stage I don’t really know much except that I will be undergoing a mastectomy on my right breast in about a week or so.
Basically I didn’t know anything at all was wrong until I got a phone call on Monday from BreastScreen NSW (I had a routine mammogram about a week ago) telling me they had seen a "couple of shadows” on my right breast and wanted to check them.
I went to my appointment on Tuesday where I had a couple of more mammograms, then a couple more and and then a coupleof more again ... each time it was pretty obvious my results were not looking good.
I then had an ultrasound where the radiographer told me that “it doesn’t look good as there are about five shadows of concern" in my breast and one under my arm.
I was then taken to a room to meet with a surgeon who told me that although they hadn’t done any biopsies yet it was highly likely that I had breast cancer and would probably need to have an operation to remove the cancer in a week or so…
I then had to go back to another room and have my biopsies done. I then went home.
Today I went back to see the surgeon and got my biopsy results.
My basic understanding now is this:
I have breast cancer.
It is in at least five sites in my right breast and one lymph node in my underarm.
I will be having my right breast removed in about a week.
I am obviously very scared and just hoping for the best.
