Mum's diagnosis

I have that funny taste in my mouth, I was told to use plastic forks/spoons/knife. I tried it and it does help. Yes, the rinsing of the mouth with salt water , is also one of my daily routines.

Your mum, will be fine, and maybe just read out the blogs we all write. It may help her know that there are "us" out there, in this great world of ours.

Please give your mum and big hug from me, and I send you a big hug.

Hi Julie, mum's feeling a lot better now still tired but nowhere near as bad. Good to hear you're doing some walking... mum can't even do that as she is waiting for surgery on her foot!!! Can't win!!

Mum has now started to get a funny taste in her mouth.. she is rinsing her mouth 4 times a day with salt water, but I guess it's another one of those side effects. She also has cold sored in both nostrils (she was prone to them anyway so she'll ride them out too)

I'd like to get mun on this website.. but her spelling is not that good, being an imigrant from Holland many years ago, so she might have a bit of difficulty trying to get across what she is trying to day

Thats great, you have to encourage her that it will be okay at the end. I have just  had my first chemo on Friday, I felt sorry to say "crap" after about  two hours when I got home, nauseous and bad headache, I took the "bag full of meds" that they give. And each day I feel tired and a little like "hangover". I do a bit of a walk, just enough for my body to say thats enough. Just up the street and back. I know, this is all just temporary, and I know that it will make me better.

Maybe you should also share this website with your mum, and show her how much we all care about her, and give her support, encouragement and love from many friends here . Kiss Kiss to her.She is a fighter just like all of us, and won't let this take over us.

Take care both of you, and have strength, it will be over and we also send cuddles, kisses and hugs to you both.

Hi Tonya, thanks for the info on the obs. I'll deep your menu in mind when Mum starts the Taxotere... this drug sounds like one of the worst ones!!!

Mum was actually feeling like a human again today, so I went to work, but rang her during the course of the day to see how she was travelling, aside from tiredness and some nausea she seemed ok

HI Cheryl, Ok I won't worry about the obs and you're right, it is poison that being pumped into you.

I'm not looking forward to the Taxotere, I've read up on it and it doesn't sound very pleasant!! Didn't know about the farts though hahahahaha

Today was a good day for mum, I was even able to go to work

Don't worry about the obs, they are not too important to chemo.

It is poison they are infusing so bp, o2, heart rate and pulse are not their greatest worries, lol.

Taxotere is hard so be prepared for it with all the biotene mouth  products, icy poles, salt mouth washes,  dark nail polish, sweet smelling candles due to the horrendous chemo farts ( soz but it's true ) chewing gum for the horrid mettalic taste in the mouth, nice facial moisturiser for the red face she will get  in the firts couple of days, gel sanitisers all around  for everyone who enters the house to be germ free, strong doses of pain relief, immodium, laxatives, electrolytes and make sure she sleeps when tired, fatigue is a strange beast and confuses you.

Don't be too scared as she will be fine ( sick but fine ) and you have all her ailments written down so tell the oncs and then they know the path to take for relief for her.

I had Taxotere and only got my obs done beforehand.They are mostly interested in your temp and full blood count because if your white cells are too low they won't proceed with chemo.A chemo infusion doesn't usually bother your bp and pulse unless you were having a bad reaction.You would know straight away if that was happening and the nurse would stop the infusion and do obs.Obviously some drug infusions and blood transfusions require close monitoring- maybe your infusion is one of them? I can remember only wanting to eat vegie soup,lemon cordial and lemonade iceblocks.Everything tasted yuk and my mouth felt like it was lined with fur. Yes that brain fog is awful -lucky your mum has you to dish out the meds.Hopefully your mum will be feeling a little better tomorrow. Keep up the good work!

Hi Joy, thanks for the tips. I'm not upset with the Breast care nurses, I have found them all to be very helpful and lovely people. I made sure mum took all her antiemetics for the prescribed days after chemo, they helped her a lot... except for her massive headache that she had for 3 days. Oh so the nurses don't worry so much about obs on the FEC chemo??? that's interesting to know.. Mum has another 2 rounds of FEC then she starts the Taxotere...so I guess she'll be "obbed out" then, don't know if I like the sound of Taxotere!!!

Hi Julie, I think Mum was just going thru a phase of "I've never been sick, now  I feel terrible" She seems to be ok if she has little naps (another thing she's had to get used to) Mum has always been the so called "nurse" in the family, and now really doesn't like being on the other side of it.

I'm hoping round 2 doesn't knock her round too much, but I keep encouraging her saying "only 5 to go now Mum"

I'm so glad I found this site and see so many others fighting this terrible disease
