Morning

Good morning ladies. Well this lovely morning finds me the palliative care as I'm having a "tune up" regarding my pain relief. I have had a few dramas lately and have had the home care team around at home so it was decide I was better off here. Obviously palliative care spooks one but it is a lovely place to be, very peaceful and great care. My drugs had ceased to be effective after so many years so am switching over. I've had a few days not knowing where I am I must admit but now feeling very alert. I bought a new car last weekend so imperative to get back on the road. So I've also met up with various allied health care people as well. There is talk of putting some pins in my hips, does anybody have experience with this. I'm quite open to it if it keeps me active. This is day 6 here so am getting let out on day leave today.....can't wait!

  • Hi Josie I understand your feelings. I was very depressed when I got home from hospital after being admitted for several weeks when my pain was being managed and my radiotherapy was being done. I had to stay in hospital because I couldn't walk unaided for a coupe of months. Thankfully, that is no longer the case. I was also on the drugs that you are taking. I do think that they also contribute to the feeling of being overwhelmed and depressed but it does get better. I've found a good counsellor who advocates the practice of mindfulness and this has also helped me cope better with depression and anxiety. There's no magic bullet and it really is a day by day approach and giving yourself the time and space to acknowledge and accept what's now happening to you and your loved ones as a result of this crap disease but I always say don't let cancer rule. • Well I'm home after 8 days of what is called "titration" which is basically establishing the right level of pain relief. So I'm,off MS Contin and on oxycodone and lyrica. Have fallen off the precipice and trying to get back up as feeling weepy from drug changes. Feeling pretty low which isn't like me so will have to try some feel good things. I was looked after like a princess though, maybe I'm missing that! It's hard to be cheery all the time whilst living like this., this is the part of bc that is kept secret.
  • Hi Josie I don't have experience with pins either but from my reading from an American website called Inspire ladies with ABC have had pain relief. Such a bugger this disease. I'm resting at the moment on the couch as I have to do a few times during the day to manage. Hope the pain gets under control. Sue

  • Hey Josie

You have a wonderful day out and enjoy fresh air and hopefully lots of love around you.

They will get your pain under control I am sure.  You will be back out there zooming around in your new lil car sooner than later I bet.

I am not able to advise about hip pins but I was just wanted to drop by and say hello and wish you well and to thank you for sharing with us.

Good luck if you go down the hip pin track and tell them to hurry up and get them thar drugs under control cause you have some hooning to do.

Thinking of you and wishing you all the best of everything, Mich xoxoox

  • Josie, can't help with advice or experience with pins in the hips, though I have heard of good results with reinforcement elsewhere. I hope the pain is soon brought under control again and that you can enjoy a lovely day out.

    Best wishes.... Pam
