More questions

so today I received a call from one of the surgical registrars asking questions on family history as well as my own medical history regarding the breast cancer journey so far, all for the purpose of the team meeting being held on Thursday where the surgeon, the oncologist, the radiation oncologist and other medical personnel will discuss me and my case and decide on my treatment plan.

i mentioned those family members I knew that had passed from cancer and later after speaking with an uncle, found out that there were a lot more than I had realised. I also contacted my father, to find out about family history on his side, and wow, more there also.

So I figure it might be best to contact the doctor tomorrow with this additional information! One thing I know, is that informed decisions are key. And if they are making decisions about my health, the I want them all to be properly informed and have every piece of information about me that there is.

hope everyone is doing okay. Sending you all love and hugs xo

  • Thanks Primek, I have also one cousin and all links are on my mothers side of the family. I might have to have a word next time I'm at the drs.

  • I get frustrated with this...I have 3 Aunts and a Grandmother and 1 cousin who had either ovarian or breast cancer (another cousin gene +)...and again general Drs say too far removed...but they are my Fathers sisters. ..the genetics team consider it a real risk and are testing for links.

  • Hi Paula, I had a few in the family too but as there was an Aunt and great Aunts they were classed as too far removed to increase my risk factors. It's always good to have the full information though, particularly as you say when decisions are being made about yourself and your treatment based on that information. All the best with your treatment plan. Xx Cath

  • Yes...the more we delve the scarier it can get. But with 1 in 8 women with breast cancer I guess really it is in everyone's family.. .

Sometimes we just don't  know about it.

It will be good to have your treatment plan. Kath x
