Hi AimBar while we wait for others to share their experience at Monash Health or Peter Mac, I just wanted to share some information about breast cancer treatment through private or public systems, which you might find helpful below. There are also lots of threads on the Online Network about this previously which you can find through the magnifying glass icon on the top right. Please also feel free to call our Helpline on 1800 500 258 and one of the lovely ladies on the phones can offer some advice/options based on your situation :)

Thank you. Fantastic resources.
I have gone with Peter Mac at this stage. Will see how long I wait for an appointment.
I didn't know if it is common for people to be referred to more than one hospital.
I am a bit lost on what is acceptable.

Hi AimBar like most things you will experience during breast cancer, it can be dependent on the physician you see and how they prefer to do things, or dependent on your individual patient needs/circumstances. Some will do one referal, some do multiple for you to consider more options. To understand what you can expect in terms of 'acceptable' timeframes/experiences during breast cancer in Australia's healthcare system, take a look at the Optimal care pathway for people
with breast cancer, pages 7-10 :)
