Momentarily Forgot!

Hi ladies, I am now 12 months past chemo and radiation and have returned to work. I did accept a supervisors position when I went back and have really settled in and doing well. However, on the weekend I came upon a staff member who completely disregarded any directives I issued. I allowed myself to be worked up to a point of complete frustration, I snapped and very politely (I thought) told her to go to another area where she was more trained. Long story short, this upset her and HR had to speak to ME the following day. I have since tried to talk to the girl and was utterly brushed aside. My point in this blog is that I momentarily forgot my promise to myself to not let trivial things upset me after the ordeal of breast cancer. Here I was, quite distressed and yes, shed a tear, and for what? I only had to remember my life halfway through chemo and this puts everything back in perspective. On the good news front, my loving partner got his test results back and it shows his medication is working and his heart is functioning twice as good as it was when he was diagnosed with cardio myopathy when I was halfway through my treatment. He will always be on the medication but his prognosis is looking much improved. Now that I've reminded myself what's important and what's not, I can continue enjoying my life the way it is now. For you ladies that are currently undergoing treatment, life does get better and yes, the mundane things are still annoying. But maybe that's a good thing, it let's us know we are alive after all:) All the best to everybody,

Hazel xx

  • Hi Hazel,

Firstly, great news about your partner - and congratulations on your Supervisor's position.  You are right about keeping our sense of proportion.  It's the difference between a problem and an inconvenience - cancer is a problem - the mundane things are an inconvenience!  All the best back to you  xx  Michelle

  • Glad to hear you are doing well Hazel and thanks for the timely reminder to not sweat the small stuff. Paula x
