Missed Appointments

Oh dear, I have been back at work since October 22nd and I have completely missed 3 appointments!

When I was home and having almost daily visits etc I checked my medical appointment schedule daily, I am out of the habit and have missed appointments. Then trying to reschedule and fit into work hours is a nightmare.

I have come to the conclusion that since I have been back at work I am so busy trying to not have them regard me as special that I am doing myself no favours.

So ladies when you return to work, don't push yourself, don't try and appear to be super woman, it just doesn't work...............

  • Luv your onsite van idea Donna.  We had one for 9 years and I can honestly say they were the best years of my life.  We only sold it because developers took over and it is a retirement village now. My husband decided we should buy it to get me away from work as I pretty much worked 24/7.   I then realised there was a lot more to life than work.  We had fun.

We would just get in the car and arrive any time day or night and we just took some food and drinks and pretty much everything else was there.  Oh and don't forget those furry children.  They would never forgive you.

Good luck, have fun, enjoy life cause as we know it is far too short.  Luv Mich xoxoxo

  • It is so funny, I have a bit of travel with my new role: well to be honest I have always had to travel but it just seems more now. Yesterday I was checking appointments and trying to fit them in between business trips.

I booked a trip during my leave, never mind my doctors appointments!

I will get there; I think I am going to go with the planning board I've asked my PA to find something for me so that its right there in front of me.

As for the work, my boss is happy for me to work from home if things get too tough but then when I am away I am doing something like 10 & 11 hour days so it does get tough.

Michael and I have discussed changing our lives, having more time to enjoy each other, so we are looking at buying an onsite caravan somewhere (checking one out at Wilsons Prom this weekend) the idea is no maintenance on a caravan like a holiday house would have, go every 2nd weekend and just relax, find one in a pet friendly park so the dogs can come and we can watch the sea, go for walks and just chill together.

Thanks again ladies I am so grateful to have your advice.

  • Hi Donna yes I did the same thing , I ended up putting my appointments on my calendar on my computer so it pops up, and my boss also has it as we'll, she reminds me so she can take me of the roster. Hope your well be in touch soon. Adean xxxxx
  • It's a timely reminder for me as I'm starting back at work first week of Feb. I will only be doing two days at first then easing back up to four days a week hopefully. My job is full time but I am trying to negotiate four days, I don't want full time work anymore. Discovered that life's too short and I want that extra day to do things for myself. Full time work for me was so tiring that I would just flop on the weekends and not want to do anything. It will be a bit of a drop in salary but we can manage.

I still have the same role but I am going back to an entirely different area and sharing an office for the first time in years as the Faculty are trying to save on space. I'll miss my lovely office going into a very small one with two of us. Oh well at least I have a job to go back to.

I have my personal calendar linked to my work calendar so I shouldn't miss any appointments hopefully. But I have my husband who is fanatical about writing things down on our wall calendar at home and he won't let me forget anything.

    Cheers

  • Hi Donna I pretty much worked right through chemo, in hindsight there were probably days I was there when perhaps I shouldn't have been but it was good for me to maintain as much normality as I could, I have a great boss..... I'm finished chemo now but I'm still finding the odd weird thing I did while still under the influence of chemo brain!!! I've managed to avoid missing any appointments by putting them on my wall planner. I use a bit of a code because everyone who comes into my office can see it, but it's in my face enough that it's impossible to miss so I make it to the appointments. Don't know if this is an option for you but it might be worth a try. Jane xx
