Minor setback after round 2!

Thanks Dette. After coming out last Wed I was back in again on the Thursday. I've only just come home today. A high temp again but my neutrafils stayed the same - weird! They couldn't find any source of the infection but put me back on IV antibiotics for 2 days then oral for 2 and kept me in as a precaution. Such a rollercoaster! I have my next AC chemo this Friday and have decided to be sensible and take the rest of this week off - as you said I too couldn't risk being in "germy" classrooms even though this is week 3 post chemo. Work is fine with this and were expecting it anyway. I am thinking of taking Mondays off permanently but using my sick days instead of dropping down to 0.6.

Anyway good luck with your next treatment and I'll let you know how cycle 3 goes. It is true what they say the body does take a beating after each dose and starts to slow down. I certainly felt more tired and lacking in energy after the 2nd one.

It's a good thing you did go to hospital with that temperature and that your body is telling all that it needs a slightly gentler approach. 

I also have a low neutrophil story which at the time i didn't  realise how bad it could have been. Because I was very low even before chemo, my oncologist ordered some extra blood tests at stages after my 1st chemo treatment. I went and had the blood taken then headed off for a walk with a friend, knowing to ring him later that afternoon. Very early in the walk he rang, was very concerned to here me puffing until I explained I was just walking up a hill, to tell me that my level was down to 0.1 and so what other symptoms did I have. In the space of the next 2 hours he rang 3 times and really couldn't believe I was fine and was I taking my temp regularly.

Big difference to this week when my temp was up and my neutrophils weren't near as low (dizzy heights of 1.2!). Haven't found any infections but have given me on antibiotics anyway.

Your move to reduce your work hours is also a bit like me - basically realised that with being neutopenic after each treatment, I really couldn't risk being in 'germy' classrooms so my visits to school are few and far between. I am fortunate to be able to to a bit fromhome when I'm up to it which is usually week 2 and 3 after treatment.

I hope all goes relatively smoothly from now on.

that level is low.  mine this week were .9 and I had to go in yesterday to have an injection to help raise the levels.  Good luck with your treatment.
