Metaplastic Breast Cancer

Hi Everyone :)

Based in New Zealand, I was diagnosed with the rare metaplastic adenocarcinoma of the breast on my 49th birthday of October 19 this year.

My first reaction to the news was to go adventuring in Vanuatu as I have the feeling that holidays would be off the menu for a while.

Three weeks ago, I had a left breast mastectomy with axillary node dissection and this turned out that 2 nodes were positive for cancer and I am also triple negative.

Tomorrow I met my medical oncology team but am unsure whether to take this option due to metaplastic being quite difficult to treat with chemo...

Would love to hear from others who thought long and hard on this decison

  • Hi,

Sorry to hear you've been presented with a rare challenge like this.

Just an idea: you may want to reach out to a site called breastcancer.org -- it's US based I think but has a massive data base of members, and a great search engine to tap into,  so it might be a good site to hook up to others in your situation as with more members, and the massive population of the States, there's more chance others in your situation will be on line there.

    Hope this helps.

    Wishing you all the best.
