Men too

Don't see much happening with Men's Breast Cancer. We have the same problems/emotions. Don't see any walks, morning teas, etc etc for men's breast cancer. I have survived bowl and breast cancer. Have Bracca2 with a bad gene STK11. Which means not if it will come back but when will it come back. Come on more support for men too.

  • Hi PeterB,

My name is Ann-Marie and I am the Online Community Coordinator at BCNA.

Firstly thank you for sharing your post. Like Robyn mentioned there are a few men online which is terrific. The Online Network is a place for everyone. Some people like to read advice whilst others like to comment and share, either way I encourage more men to have a voice.

I know the color pink is everywhere especially this time of the year, but that doesn't mean we don't support our men. Our luncheons, Mini Fields just to mention a few, are for everyone.

We have a Men's online group which could be a great place to connect with other men, as well as our community support groups that meet face to face. Like Anita and Tracey have mentioned please check-in with the Online Network as there is a lot of support waiting here for you.

I love Robyn's idea for a story in our Beacon. If this is something you may be interested in please let me know.

  • Hi Peter:):) Yes,please stay connected on here .Even though it is predominantly women, there are a few men,on this blog.I am trying to imagine how it would be for me if it was the other way round, and women were the minority.I would definitely find it hard. There is a certain kind of comfort in numbers, right?  I am interested to hear your story, and I am thinking that BCNA could perhaps do a feature on men in their next issue of the Beacon? What do you reckon ladieees ??? We should put some support behind this!! Stay in touch Peter? Cheers Robynxox

Hi Peter, and welcome to the network. I know that the breast unit that I go to also has male clients, and ditto in the radiology unit that I went to. I totally agree with you and think that there should be more publicity about men having breast cancer. It must have been so unnerving for you to be diagnosed in the first place, and then the follow up treatment. I hope that you have good support from your family and friends during your treatment and beyond. Please keep checking in with us,as your treatment will be the same as what happens to us girls. Take care, Trace ????

  • Hi Peterb,

I agree with you there needs to be more awareness out there for men I have a very close friend of mine who had breast cancer he is now in his 3rd year post treatment in Melbourne and he also wants more awareness that hey men get this too it's not just a woman's disease I tell as many men I know about men getting breast cancer and they are usually men don't get bc but then I tell them about my friend who's like a brother to me don't neglect your body I don't want to see you go through this too, it's scary and life is too precious we need to get the word out there so I here what you're saying and I'm 100 percent with you I am in the process of going through chemo and I have a long journey ahead of me but I will get through it and I want to create awareness out there for men too and so does my husband, you hang in there, sending a big cyber hug and a smile.
