Men don't like Hormone Tablet side effects for Prostate - trying new meds

Oh Dear ..... Just on NBN News (channel 9 - I will put a link up when I find it!)

Did anyone else see it & grab the name of the 2nd drug?

Some men who require taking Hormone tablets to reduce the amount of testosterone (and other hormones) that feed their Prostate Cancer - don't seem to like the side effects that the tablets produce.   Weight Gain, brain fog issues, emotional issues, aches & pains ...... HELLO??

So they are trialling the use of a combination of 2 drugs to kill the cancer cells - Lozanoc (an anti fungal treatment) and something else ( I missed the name - but started like hydro..........) are showing promising results.

Further down the track, they will trial it on ovarian and breast cancer, apparently!
  • @arpie My hubby had horrendous tinea which he could not get rid of using creams, etc. In desperation he started pouring vinegar over it twice a day. Three days later and it started healing. Not sure if it would work for your hubby but may be worth a shot. We just used the own brand white vinegar as he would splosh a heap on to make sure it was all covered.
  • Mind you ... reading some of the side effects on the Lozanoc alone would have me wondering whether to take it or not ...... Keith has chronic toe nail infection (once it is in the bed of the nail, it is virtually impossible to eradicate with topical solutions/creams & needs tablets for 12 months+.)  But these tablets can also destroy your liver - so tho not pretty, the toenail isn't worth getting liver failure!

  • @CarmelS  ....... hmmmmm ..... I don't suppose you have any toenail fungal issues??   ;)   (Only kidding!  NEVER take medication if not prescribed!)

  • Well I’m halfway there already ......I take hydroxychloroquine ( plaquenil) for autoimmune/inflammation condition....... repurposed antimalarial drug.
  • Hmm! Testicles v breasts it would seem. ..... and the winner is?
  • Many thanks for finding that  xxx  @iserbrown - I was monitoring FB and Google/NBN News to find it and you FOUND IT!!   I should've just hit 'record' button - but brain did not get into gear as I watched it - amazed that men didn't appear to put up with what WE'VE been putting up with for decades!!  (an all embracing 'WE' for those who went before us!!)

    TOTALLY AGREE, @Blossom1961 !!

  • I am not on hormone tablets however I am sure there would be a female reporter on another channel that would love to hear a females experience on this whole issue and how we recognised that if a man went through this it would be a different response from doctors. Well here is proof. Time to go for it ladies. Who is going to jump in or maybe a few of you could do it together. I for one would love to see how the doctors scramble for excuses. SEXism
