Meds

I am starting on Dexamethasone,Letrazole and Pregablin. Anyone else on these meds and what side effects, if any can I expect. Thanks
  • Dex made me 'grindy', sleepless and ravenous. I only took it for three days with my first chemo cycle then had to take it for an extra couple of days per round after that. It helps with heaps of the chemo side effects but I hated it.

I was dreading Letrazole because I already had shitty joint and muscle pain from chemo, but 2 months on, nothing is getting worse so I will assume I'm tolerating it. Bone density is the main worry for me now, which will have to be monitored I suppose.
  • Hi Tennille, I do not know what Pregablin is, but I have just finished Letrazole after 6 years, and had dexamethazone prior to each chemo round. The dexamethazone is given to help prevent side effects from the chemo. They give quite a large dose and it can make you a bit hyper, and sleeping can be hard. I was told to have them at 8am and then at 12md. My lovely oncologist prescribed sleeping pills, so I had no problems. Letrazole wasn't too bad, but there are some side effects like joint stiffness and skin dryness. These side effects do disappear in several months, so take things like fish oil to help your joints. After 6 years, I have just been switched back to tamoxifen, as I have now have low bone density. This is also a side effect of the drug, and I have kept up exercise, calcium and Vit D, but finally am almost osteoporotic. I also had hot flushes, but I was having them for 4 years prior to breast cancer, so don't think I can really blame Letrazole for them. This is still a great drug to use if menopausal, and I was happy to take it.
    good luck with your treatment.
    Chris xx
