I’ve recently met someone who had stage 4 metastisised breast cancer and given only a few months to live. She managed to use cannabis oil and the tumours have reduced and 18 months later she is alive and able to work again. I undetstand although medical cannabis is now legal there hasn’t been one prescription processed yet in Australia. Does anyone have any further information on this or know of anyone who has been successful in obtaining it please. Or any trials using cannabis. Apparently there is a huge crop growing in Lismore which is ironic being so close to Nimbin. I feel so frustrated Cannabis is illegal and it’s helped so many people, especially children having seizures. Yet the government will take children from the parents and treat them with pharmacy drugs whilst the cannabis has been stopping the seizures. I would be very willing to try cannabis in an effort to stop my breast cancer metastasising in lieu of waiting to see if it will. I know this is a “hot” topic but as a cancer patient feel we should have the right to talk openly about anything & everything we have heard/seen/tried. Looking forward to your comments. ❤️

Medicinal cannabis is not just regular pot.There are hundreds of different cannabinoids which bind with receptors in our bodies, Research at the moment is looking at which ones do what. It's a very complex issue. Garden variety marijuana has been selectively bred to increase THC which gets you stoned. Once useful cannabinoids have been identified the trick will be to breed strains with high levels of those compounds.I used an infused oil during treatment which, I think, helped with nausea and some of my pain issues.There are trials in place now looking at how cannabis may help with exactly those issues and appetite during chemo.

I believe cannabis oil has been used in some instances but the longer term effects have yet to be adequately researched. There is a difference in prescribing treatment for someone who is in the terminal phase of an illness, and someone who is not. I'd happily take something if it would extend my life when all other options had been exhausted, and hang the possible consequences! But maybe not if my prognosis was pretty good in the first place. But for sure it is a very interesting and potentially rich field for further research and trials.

Medicinal cannabis is under clinical trial. But not for a cure for breast cancer but to relieve nausea and pain for palliative patients . I expect the lady you were speaking with was also on other medication that were prescribed to reduce tumours as they keep trying different medications until one works. Do remember that most drugs were sourced originally from nature itself. Getting consistent doses etc is how medication was created. Even chemo comes from nature itself. That's the bugbear of legalizing it, the expense. Government and pharmacy would have you believe it is very expense yet if you get your own seed, grow your own small plants (you only need a couple), harvest leaves and stems off as it grows to make it grow more and make your own CBD oil it costs nothing more than the price of the seed and a bottle of coconut oil.I was in dire straits with Tamoxifen and depression and walked like a person 20 years older than myself. I tried pharmacy antidepressants and painkillers but I am drug sensitive now since chemo and my body couldn't take them but I can take a very low dose CBD oil as a supplement to my Tamoxifen.Government has just taken Codeine off of over the counter meds now so you can't have the old Codral cold and flu med with codeine in it any more. Nor can you get Sudaphed over the counter any more either. Just because a tiny minority abused it to make their own illicit drugs. Way to go gov't penalize the masses yet again for the sins of a few. It is the exact thing they did with marijuana and that didn't work either. Will they ever learn?

I had a quick look at the SA advice to doctors, yesterday. There appears to be some concern in that long-term effects are not well-known so at the moment it's a softly, softly approach and for doctors to decide based on their knowledge of the patient and the patient's condition. I believe that, from memory (yesterday morning seems years ago) cancer is considered to be one of the conditions medicinal cannabis is highlighted for.

I've been using Copaiba essential oil for pain from my axillary scar. I was told by the Dr to take 8 panadol across the day to keep a lid on it as was feeling a 7/10 pain at the end of the day. Plus I couldn't keep taking codeine or endone/temgesic or I could hardly get up plus constipation. After a few days the copaiba kicked in. I was using two drops under my tongue day and night. I was very sceptical but I haven't needed a painkiller in months. Now I have had to stop the copaiba as rad onc said not to use during rad. I understand why. However it is now day 8 of rad and I need the panadol again. Copaiba is a 'cousin' of CBD oil and I order it from USA as I'm into essential oils...but the company I do my orders through has had so many requests based on a broad spectrum of positive results in different areas that we can only purchase 1 x 15ml bottle a month! It may not work for everyone, I was just interested that it did for me and then my pain returned on stopping it.

@Marianne_BCNA. Thank you so much for that info. It’s tricky given the laws in different states in our ONE country to keep up to date with agendas like cannabis, euthanasia etc. just wish our government wouldn’t procrastinate on such important issues. At a Medi-can weekend recently there’s huge possibilities of cannabis (high CBD) stopping triple negative breast cancer in its tracks. As per @lrb_03 link above dated 2014 cannabis oil should be legal and available for those who NEED it for medical reasons. Thanks for the input as I’m feeling torn between doing what’s right legally and what’s right for me and my needs. More research.

I used cold pressed oil made from biodynamic marijuana during my 20 weeks of chemo.

Grown by a friend who has had rheumatoid arthritis for 20 years she has grown hers specifically to counter the effects of the steroids she must take.

She showed me how, without any heat involved (which interferes with the plant's botanics) you extract a black tar like substance, which you then mix with manuka honey to make it palatable.

I didn't take it to shrink my tumors but to counter the effects of chemo (which comes with a lot of catabolic steroids). It made chemo more tolerable. It kept me 'grounded' and reduced my anxiety to manageable levels.

It's very expensive but was worth every penny. I'm sure it's not for everyone but it certainly worked for me.
