Mastectomy scar position

HI lovely ladies

This may seem like a strange question but just wondering of those who have had a mastectomy - whereabouts is the position of your scar!!

I had a right mastectomy in April 11 and my scar seems very high up - clearly nothing I can do about that now but was just wondering if usually the scar is "midboob' line - mine is so high up would be almost on the upper chest so it sits above the bra line even the sort of tank top ones. It is also so long as my lumps where towards the centre - it is about 18cms in length.

No reason ofr asking other than interest really.

    How are you Deb, I had a right mastectomy in Jan 2010. this included all of the lymph glands.  My scar is from mid chest to under my armpit and is level with the top of my left breast.

    I have no Ideas on the why or the wherefor of it all - actually haven't even given it any thought.  I'm due for my 2-year check up at the end of the month with the surgeon - might ask him just out of curiousity!!!

    How are you travelling Deb re treatment?  I was fortunate in that I didn't need chemo or radiotherapy, everything was contained in the boob and hadn't travelled anywhere else.  I'm on Arimidex for a few more years yet - not fussed on the side effects but as long as I know what's causing the the new aches and pains I can "live" with that.

    Hi Debs, my mastectomy scar is pretty high as well. My lump was in the upper outward quadrant. They called it 1pm on a clock face. It seemed really high, and when I had my secong boob off some 9 months later, I asked the surgeon to make it a bit lower, as he was going to make them the same. Whilst he did make it a little lower, it is not too much different from the first one. Now, I wish they were both the same and I had let him do what he had intended to do. I have just gone through reconstruction with expanders and had the siliocone implants put in yesterday. I found that the boob with the higher scar line actually expanded much more easily than the other. Now that the silicon is in, the scars do not look to high on my chest. The stretching of the skin seems to lower the scars. Both of mine are very long, like 18 cm. The mastectomy that also removed 1/3 of my lymph nodes is actually a little shorter than the one I had removed as a precaution. Now when I look at my scars, I do wish they were identical, as now when I have nipples done, the scar will be in different places. I should have listened, as having one high scar will have prevented me from showing too much cleavage anyway. My new surgery has given me a cleavage again, and I'm happy to say that the scar is now hidden by the bra. Will you be having reconstruction? Love Chris xx
