Lumpectomy

So went In yesterday morning to have my lumpectomy. Early start had to be at admissions for 6.30 am, then I went up to the. Ward, had a pre med, then to breast clinic to get a wire put put in prior to having the surgery. Getting the wire put in was fine, the doctors and nurses and radiographers in the clinic were as usual lovely. Waited around some more then said goodbye to hubby and off back up to the ward. I was sat in the waiting with a few others who were waiting for different ops, I'd been told I was second on the list, then in was first, then I was third. Not really a problem waiting cos the pre meds were starting to kick in so I was pretty spaced out - felt quite trippy! Got taken up to theatre about 12.30, woke up back on the ward a few hours later, sllept on and off, visit from hubby and daughter early evening slept on and off most of the night until about 3am. The old dear in the bed opposite was snoring worse than my hubby and every time she moved, her bed made loud farting noises( well I think it was the bed!) unfortunately I'm still immature enough to find those noises funny and had a wee giggle to myself! I was finally feeling clear headed, didn't need much in the way of pain relief either which was good. Got checked over by nurses regularly, then the doc came round had a look and said I could go home! Back home, been sleeping on and off but feeling ok, bit swollen and painful but manageable. I have to go back at beginning of June to see surgeon should find out then how it all went, then should find out what's happening about radiotherapy!

  • Hi Chris, loved reading your posts, currently relating to the 4 eyelashes post!!  Hope all is going well with you, will be starting radiotherapy sometime soonish as well, looking forward to your updates x

  • A good giggle helps you get through the night in hospital. I had a lady in with me that made thyose snoring gulping noises, I honestly thought she was going to die, I rang for the nurse and was told thats how she always sounds, so like you I got the giggles.

Another time the snoring was so bad my husband got me ear plugs and I hadd an eyes mask becasue they kept turning lights on, well through the night a male nurse came to check on me, tuned on the light, spoke to me when I didn'[t respond he touched me, I screamed so loud, too funny really so the eye mask and ear plugs went after that.

    Good luck on your results.

  • Just finished reading all your posts.  You have such a great sense of humour, which always helps!  As we all know, the process is not a picnic, yet you had me laughing out loud at some of your spot-on observations.  Once I started reading, I couldn't stop.  I had Paclitaxol too, but after mastectomies, and then radiation therapy to follow.  It has been 2 years now since diagnosis (but who's counting?) and life has actually returned to almost normal, so stay positive and keep that wonderful outlook going.  (That doesn't mean you aren't allowed to have melt-downs - you are - whenever you need one!)  I hope all goes well at your appointment with the surgeon and you get the all clear.  Keep posting and let us know how you are going.  You really are a ray of sunshine!  Hugs.  Michelle xx
