Looking Good

My ultrasound on the morning of surgery showed no active tumours. My three dead tumours are still gone and the primary tumour site is just  distortion. I'm so happy about having chemotherapy before surgery because we've been able to watch the tumours shrink.

I sometimes think about how things might have been different. What if I hadn't had this response? Well, at least I would have know that the chemotherapy wasn't effective against my type of cancer and I could have tried something else. That's surely better than taking out the tumours first and just guessing.

Surgery was only two days ago and I feel terrific. Thanks to my regular yoga I'm having no problems with the physiotherapy and thanks to having chemo first I was able to have wide excission surgery rather than mastectomy. I have a finger length wound at 10 oclock on my left breast. My surgeon also removed a sentinel node from under my left arm through the same incsion. How do they do that!?

I am so grateful to have been able to have the support of the amazing staff at the Mater Hospital at  North Sydney and my brilliant doctors, Kylie Snook (surgeon) and Racel Dear (oncologist). Every time you mention their names to hospital staff you hear the same thing; "Amazing."

Just have to wait on my pathology results next Wednesday but my fingers are crossed for a full pathological response.
