Looking forward to looking back

I'm on my way to Dr Hassells rooms to have a map drawn on then surgery at 6am tomorrow. I have truly unfortunate scarring, swelling and neuropathic pain and it would be a dream come true for this procedure to solve some or all of the issues. It's been a long couple of years! Has anyone had the procedure...would appreciate advice?

  • Can anyone comment on the neuropathic pain post reconstruction surgery. I have been advised that the tram procedure can resolve the problem of neuropathic pain post mastectomy?
  • So pleased to get your advice and although warning someone of how rough it will be doesn't seem like positive advice....it has certainly helped me to calibrate the expectations to a more realistic start point. Another good friend told me it would be "hell" and believe it or not.....this was helpful.

  • Hi there,

I hope it has all gone to plan today. I have heard Dr Hassell if very good expecially for the TRAM procedure. I had this procedure and am very happy with the results so far. It is a tough recovery, but totally worth it.

If you were interested in my photo story and other stories and chat about TRAM procedures you could join the Breast reconstruction online group. Just follow the link. http://www.bcna.org.au/group/61026

My advice would be to take a lambs skin rug to put under your sheets as you will spend a lot of time lying down and this really releives your back, butt and helps to regulate the heat of the mattress.

An Ipod and ear phones are good to keep out ward noise post especially during the night when it might be hard to sleep.

Keep up the high fibre diet as pain relief can cause constipation and you dont need that on top of your recovery.

A recliner at home is very handy to maintain the banana shape post surgery.

Be prepared for 4-6 weeks taking it easy until you get some strength back.

Take care, I hope it all goes well for you, Louie
