Life nearly back to 'almost' normal

Hi ladies, short update on my journey. Full prophylactic mastectomy done and dusted 5 weeks ago.  Am seeing a physiotherapist weekly for my postop tethering and scars.  I'm progressing well and ready for my radiation to start next week.  I have to admit that even though I thought I was prepared for the surgery my head was not in a good space for the two weeks post surgery. Much crying, not helped by having to have drains put back in. Anyway, all good now, looking forward to the end of this part of the journey.  Going to wait a year before seeing plastic surgeon...  Cheerio and hugs to all

  • Hi Debbie, no matter how much we think we prepare ourselves for the surgery it is still tough when we look down and see what we have lost. Take some time to heal. There is plenty of time to figure out what you want to do next, if anything.

I had a prophylactic mastectomy at the same time as my double reconstruction it ended up being 2 1/2 years after my first mastectomy. I was glad of that time as it gave me plenty of time to decide what I really wanted to do.

Lucky I didn't want it an earlier as it took me forever to get an appointment with the PS.

Good luck with your radiation. I found it sooo much easier than chemo, so I hope you do also.
