Letrazole Side Effect & Use of Topical Oestrogen Gel

Hello

I was diagnosed and treated for hormone positive breast cancer in November last year.  Thankfully chemo and radiation are done and dusted - it is now the ongoing management with letrozole.

Just wondering if anyone has been prescribed a topical estrogen gel to help manage the side effects of letrozole - more specifically, vaginal bleeding.  And have you had a positive experience with it?  I have been told that provided it is used intermittently, it is okay.  Reading the contraindications - I am conflicted about using it.  I have tried over-the-counter products, but the bleeding remains an issue.  Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you.
  • I use a topical oestrogen cream intermittently (sometimes even erratically!) but I don't have bleeding - had it only once, right at the beginning of the problem. My surgeon sat me down and explained how the medication works, and very specifically how it affected my changing oestregen levels (I was about 74 at the time), which may make a difference from person to person. I initially wanted nothing to do with oestrogen, felt it was very contra-indicated but his careful explanation made me feel much more at ease. Best wishes.
  • Lovely - thank you.  Appreciate the feedback and yes, definitely gives me a level of comfort!
