Lapraoscopic hysterectomy directly after radiation treatment

Hi girls, I was wondering if anyone had a lapraoscopic hysterectomy directly after the radiiation treatment finished and how long you needed to be off work after this operation.  I go in on a Wednesday and the surgeon said that I could potentially be back at work the following Monday....... Is he being overly optimistic?  And what were the symtoms from going straight into menopause...

  • I had an Oophorectomy done 6 weeks after radiation finished, I was in hospital for 4 days and I was off work for 1 week after. I am guessing you would be off longer with a hysterectomy.

  • Took about 2 weeks for Menopause to really kick in. I was onTamoxifen then switched to Arimidex  which really pushed menopause into overdrive.  Hot flushes, night sweats, summer was not fun.  I suggest you also read a blog that was on here last year.  Sorry not sure how to mark this blog for you, if you type in the "start your search" you will find it.

    Tamoxifen side effect relief pleast?!

  • Hi Angie,

I had about a 6 week break after radiation before Radical Hysterectomy.  Only for the reason that I had my daughters Debutant Ball, and my surgeon said if I wanted to dance to wait until after.   I was in Hospital for about 5 days, even though it was only last October it all seems a blur.  I took 5 weeks off as I have a very busy physical business.  Concentration was the hardest thing, and being really tired.  Not sure if when I asked questions I tuned out for the answer or just forgot what I was told.   Are you just having ovaries removed?  Back at work by Monday may be ok, but if you are having a total  hysterectomy/ooperectomy  then I think you would need more time off.   HysterSisters is a great site to give you information.
