Kidney lesions

Just wondering if anyone has had kidney lesions show up in any of their scans and what they ended up being. When I started treatment in 2011 a lesion showed up on my kidney which my oncologist said she would look at more closely when treatment is over. Recent scans etc have shown the lesion is definitely a growth not a cyst. I saw a urologist last Monday who needed a good lesson in bedside manner. My appointment went from " I don't understand why your oncologist has sent you to me " to " I'm going to call now for an urgent ultrasound and I will be presenting your case to the multidisciplinary board in two days and ill be in touch" My urgent scan has shown the lesion has grown significantly since nov 2012 and I am due to call the specialist today. As you can see from the time I'm writing this the worry and waiting is affecting my sleep. Its not a great thing when you start work at 6am with 30 preschool age children lol. If anyone has had kidney lesions or secondaries in kidneys I'd love to hear from you. Thanks Mel :)

  • Hi Donna Thanks for your reply It was found before I started treatment but not investigated fully then as I had multiple cancers in both breasts and lots of node in ok cement so my bilateral masectomy and clearance was quite urgent. I then had 16 chemos and 5 weeks of radiation. I returned to work as a preschool teacher in November last year after 11 months off. I have a suspected secondary in my rib that is still being discussed amongst my team as my to. Has been broken since August last year and is not healing well. My gut feels that the lesion is cancer. I was told to call the urologist office at 9 am this morning after he took my case to a hospital meeting yesterday. I saw him on Monday and an ultrasound has shown the lesion has grown since nov last year. Of course he was not in and hasn't returned my call I will keep you posted. I may like to ask more depending on what happens next Thanks again Melinda
  • I also had a tumour in my left kidney, it was not a secondary but another primary cancer.

Becasue the tumour was situated on the pole they could not save my kidney, so off to surgery I went for removal of my left kidney. That was June 13th this year.

Whilst I won't lie, the recovery wasn't easy, I am doing fine now. I feel no issue with having one kidney it does not effect my every day life.

My understanding is that if you have a tumour dependant on where it is located they can remove part of the kidney, I was told that chemo and radiation would not work for me on that area.

I was also told that they would not do the kidney surgery before my chemo as it is best to have 2 kidneys to assist to flush the chemo from our bodies.

I hope this is the type of information you are after, if not just ask the question and I'll try and answer you.

    Donna
