Just jumped on the BC train

Hi there ladies

I was in Canada enjoying an extended working holiday (I spent 6 months on a ski resort and just decided to stay on in Canada for the summer) and had just came back from a month traveling central america when I noticed a red mark on my L breast. I touched it and instantly my heart leaped out of my chest. My mum had BC and so I always knew I could get it. Just never thought this young. All the stuff I have seen about BC has been associated with older women.

I got it checked out= poked, proded and probed. Diagnoses was Triple Neg Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.

I was on a flight home within a few days.

The past couple of weeks has been a blur of appoinments, doctors and waiting rooms.

I am 30 and single so the issue of fertility has come up. I just had egg collection done today. They only got 5 which isnt great, but better then none.

So they have decided on chemo first then surgery. And they dont start for a couple of weeks even. Which I am worried if it spreads?

Although during the scans they have found a cyst on my R ovary and they are looking at it on Monday if its malignant. It just seems like one thing after another.

I am remaining positive though, focasing on good things like new boobs and hair!

I am interested in raising awareness among young people about breast cancer so if there is anything going on let me know!

  • I'm in a pretty similar predicament to yourself. I was diaganosed with triple negative breast cancer a few weeks before my 30th birthday. I'd also recently came back from my honeymoon too but thats life :(

Im due to start chemo in a few weeks  (had a lumpectomy a few weeks ago) which I know is going to be a challange but I'm being pretty proactive about it. Organsing a wig and trying to keep busy etc. I have one last chance to harvest some eggs as they didnt retrive any in my last cycle :( so fingers crossed.

It does feel that when 1 thing goes wrong a million other things happen to us.

Like you I'm trying to remain postitive if I can tackle this then I can do anything.

This site is really good as it gives a lot of practical of information and allows you sometimes just to vent to other people who have or are in the same situation.

    Hope everything goes ok

  • Sorry to hear your holiday was cut short, and you have discovered, like a lot of us did, by touching the lump at the right time.  I am triple negative too.  There is a lot to read and learn, and we are all experiencing different stages of BC.  I was surprised that I was classed as Young at 46 with it. (smile).  I am now 9 months after I found out, and finished all the treatments - in the rehab and recovery section.  Feel free to express how you are feeling, ask questions, and we are all here to give you as much emotional support as you need!  Good luck.  Bel xx

  • We will all be here for you, so keep blogging - you will always have support.  This bc journey is often called a roller coaster you can't get off - for you, maybe a downhill race on black ice - you just have to ride it out until you get to the finish line.  As you have found, once it starts, things move very quickly.  There is a Triple Negative group on this site which might help with information.  Chemo first is quite common - it shrinks the tumour and makes surgery easier.  The women on this site are amazing - blog whenever you feel the need for support and someone will be there.  Love and hugs, Michelle xx
  • I'm so sorry to hear that you have had to board the train so young. But glad you've found this site. As I've said many times since joining the blogs in May, this site has been a life saver with such wonderful support and information given so freely by the amazing woman who are going and have gone through BC. You sound like you are a very strong and independent person so use that strength to stay 'on track'. My heart goes out to you and your family. I'm sending you huge hugs. Love Janey xxx
