Just an update

It's now 9 days since my op and everyday is quite different. Mentally I'm feeling great, I feel like I've had this massive weight lifted off my shoulders and for the first time since October last year I feel like I have clear head space. Physically I'm still feeling really good but physical changes are happening on a daily basis that are always quite different. For example, my breasts were very numb after the op and now that I'm getting feeling back in them I get odd sensations like bubbles going through my boobs. I've also discovered that I can't drink really cold drinks or eat ice cream as it gives me a stingy feeling in my boobs. I have two spots on my back/side either side that feel like they are bruised which makes it difficult to lay on for much longer than an hour, so sleep is a bit broken. Sometimes I get a feeling of a lot of pressure on my chest but then it passes. None of these things have really prevented my recovery from moving forward, they're just a little odd and unexpected. When I first got home I would just do some walking laps of my street to keep a little bit active which was probably only 500 metres by the end of the day. But each day I've increased and walking with a friend I've now walked 2.5kms, 3.2kms and then 5kms on consecutive days. The rest of the day has been spent relaxing and I'm having early nights but I'm not crazy exhausted. I try not to sit for longer than 1/2 an hour so my circulation keeps working but also sitting for long periods makes my chest tight. I was very fit before my op and am blessed with loving exercise and therefore have the headspace to love having an exercise routine, but I really think my fitness has helped my recovery enormously. So far I feel incredibly lucky that my recovery has been so good and that I'm able to exercise. Because for me when I exercise my head is clear and the rest of my life seems to work better. I'm also very blessed to have an incredible support network, including neighbours who have done home delivery dinners, gotta love that. I go back to my surgeon tomorrow for my post op visit so really looking forward to getting my dressings off (not sure if I get smaller dressings or what happens) and being one step closer to being back to my normal life.
