Hi all, Haven't posted for a while - just been enjoying replying to others. We got some "not so welcome" news yesterday. It was such a shock as I have been gradually getting stronger and looking forward to a large family holiday in Thailand next month to celebrate my nephew's wedding. My husband had his regular doctor visit to check on his DVT. He has been off Warfrin for a couple of months after struggling with the side effects most of the year. (had a DVT diagnosed last January) Anyway after an ultrasound last evening he has been diagnosed with more DVT. We are off to see his doctor tomorrow to get the full results. The GP last night expressed his concern and told my husband that he is at HIGH risk of having a stroke. Holy s.... We have cancelled our weeked away at Agnes Waters and it is 99.9% certain that our Thailand holiday is off. I won't go on my own as I want to be with my hubby. Life is so precious and "things" can change in a "heatbeat". Thankfully I have learnt the art of "not panicking" and I am "taking it as it comes". Take care everyone and enjoy every minute. XLeonie

Hi Leonie, I am sorry to hear about your husband and his DVT. There are other products that can thin the blood that aren't warfarin. You might be able to use these and not cancel your holiday. One I am thinking of is called Clexane and another is called Fragmin and they are injections. My brother has the blood clotting gene called Leiden 5, and as he travels alot overseas, he injects himself when ever he needs to fly. Hope he is ok, and that you will still be able to fly. Not really the news you want to hear at the start of a fresh new year.But as you say you've developed a "don't panic"attitude.Despite your aching joints ,I reckon you"ve developed being flexible as well.All of us here have! It would be a shame to miss the wedding and family holiday in Thailand but as you say, hubbys health comes first.Life is so unpredictable isn't it. My brotherinlaw has just had a 7cm cancerous brain tumour removed and doesn't have a very good prognosis.He starts radiation next week in Brisbane,He is only 58.Our family is still coming to terms with this"out of the blue"news.Yes,life is so precious and I hope your husband"s dvts get sorted out VERY quickly.Oh but don't you get sick of tests and doctor's visits love Tonya xx

Yeh, it is lucky that I am feeling okay at the moment. Also lucky that I am not going back to work. I seem to just go with the flow in everything now. XLeonie

It's tit for tat (excuse the pun) with the injections as my hubby had to give me an injection after each chemo. He really has tough skin on his gut (years of beer pickling) and I have to really "stick him" to get the needles in. Oouch...XLeonie

I wrote you a lovely reply earlier today but it didn't accept it so here's reply number 2. My husband was a bit shy about asking to go to a specialist but heh I'm not shy anymore when it comes to health issues. My husband has been going to the same GP for years and didn't want to "hurt his feelings". What the. Anyway I am very relaxed about being assertive now and the GP did listen. I was patient and waited until he said his bit and of course I had the information on board as well. I am looking forward to the holiday and "what will be will be". The only thing we have power over is keeping my husband stress free and his diet. I wish he was a faster learner when it comes to "patience and relaxing" but it is slowly rubbing off on him. I am glad you have adopted my "onwards and upwards" philosophy - what more can we do. XLeonie

Hi all, We went to see my hubby's GP today. Boy did we have some questions for him. The first one was for a referral to a blood specialist (I had sussed it out prior to our GP appointment as I have been treated by this fellow before) Surprisingly the GP was very good today and LISTENED. He also said that this "clot" looks like an old one (maybe the sonographer didn't pick it up a couple of months ago!!!!!) Anyway it is there so in hindsight my husband should have stayed on blood thinners (he hates the effects so was glad to be off them). Chris, yes I am giving him two needles of Clexane each night as well as him taking the Warfarin. (I pretend that I am confident with the needles - I hate giving them) His blood reading today was 1 and it needs to be 2-3. We will continue with the Clexane and 7mg of Warfarin daily, have blood tests every 3 days and see if the reading comes up. Also we are watching his diet really closely - and of course no alcohol. We are scheduled to fly out from here on 12th Feb then out to Thailand on 14th Feb so hopefully things will settle down in order for that to happen. I had written off the trip but the GP says it should all be fine to travel - just for my hubby to keep moving on the flight. It is now a wait and see game. At least we don't feel so uptight about it all tonight. Will keep you posted. I will now have to "get cracking" with getting my mind around overseas travelling again.
