I've come back

Hi everyone,

Sorry I have not been online for some time. Been through chemo  and had a rough time with it. I am still having herceptin every three weeks. Its been a rough road but i am now back at work, only just gone back after 4 months off. I still need to see the doctors in april to see if surgery is going to happen ,  i hope not but if thats the case well i have to deal with that.

Work has been tiring and the children, in my child care centre asked me why i wear my headwear. So i explained to them why. My boss has been great through this and my co workers.

My family are doing great and have got used to seeing me sick with no hair. My eldest son always asked how i was and still asks how was work and how i am.

I hope that all the ladies i chatted with are doind well. I will keep in touch from time to time.

    Hi Natalie,

    I also work with that age group & had only started in that room after christmas. I only spent a few weeks there before I was diagnosed with bc. I have only been working at this centre for 3 months but they have been very supportive. Thanks for your advice, I will take it on board when the time comes. I had my first chemo on Thursday, the first aftrenoon/night were tough but I'm feeling a bit better today. i have joined a local support group & they have been wonderful.

    Hi Lorretta

    Thank you for your reply. Working in child care is the hardest when you are sick, even when you are well it's very physical and demanding. I work with 0-2 year olds and had 4 months off. It was hard as we have the mortgage and three kids(15,13,9).  Im not very old under 40 and having breast and lung cancer is the biggest journary of my life and to get back to work was and is the hardest. I work full time, i did start with half days for the first week then returnded to full time. I have come to realise that i should have went back for only 2-3 days. So my advice to you is go back slowly. I have a great boss and if i told her that i needed to change hours im quite sure it would have happened but i have been back 5 weeks now and needed more time to get over the chemo. Also join a breast cancer group if there is one available in your area, I attend them and its very informative and helpful.

    Hi Nattie

    Great that you have finished chemo.  Dont overdo it at work, it is so tiring when you go back.  I finished chemo in 2008 and only just this year feel ready to go back full time and I still have to run around after my own after work.  come the weekend I am soooo looking for my nana naps again.

    Great to hear from you again, just look after yourself and dont do too much.

    Hi Natalie, congrats on making it through chemo & fingers crossed that you don't need surgery. I am only at the beginning of all of this & start my chemo next week. I also work in child care so i was interested in how you went going back to work. I have taken time off work as it's just to risky with all the things you can catch & I'm sure you would agree that It's a very physical job! At this stage I am not sure when I will go back. Did you go back full or part time?
