Sounds like you're on the right track with a solid team of health professionals. Many women don't get that. So, you can at least breathe easily, knowing that everything is being taken care of for you. How awesome to have a psych on hand!

There are alternatives for vascular access.
you can have a picc line fitted, or a part a cath (especially if you have to her the 12 months of Herceptin), and that will fix the vein access issues. Talk to your treating team about your options for vascular access.

Hi Vicki! I am doing exactly the same as you. I was diagnosed the day before you (as mentioned on one of your other posts) I am 39 have 3 girls and am an oncology nurse. I had a lumpectomy last week but have to go back for a re-excision tomorrow due to involved margins. :( I will also be starting chemo in the next couple of weeks and have been doing the wig/hat window shop. There are lots of Australian websites that sell online and eBay is good too. I found an American site which has an awesome array of hats designed specially for women with hair loss. http://www.headcovers.com/ I'm waiting for my first chemo and then I'm going to dye my hair pink and have a head shave party. Might do a Mohawk and a few other crazy styles before it all goes. I'm also going to get a few different wigs to chop and change depending on my mood. Variety is the spice of life! Gotta make the best of a really crappy situation! D xx
