Itchy scalp during chemo

Just wondering if anyone out there might have a solution to easing a sore, sensitive & incredibly itchy scalp? I've recently had my second chemo session, & shaved my head after loosing hair in clumps ( on day 14) but still have some hair growth happening alongside bald patches. Calamine lotion helps for a short while & I'm using a satin pillow slip but cannot seem to find long term relief. Have stopped wearing scarves & my wig to let it breathe for a few days but there's been no change. I also have red & angry welts all over my scalp & what appear to be large pimples forming around the base of my hairline....gross! Any advise would be welcome....I'm desperate & will try anything!

thanks heaps :)

  • Thanks for the support and advise girls!

I've found a good hydrocortisone cream that has helped with the itching and since lost more of the "spindly spikes" of hair which were so painful. The pimples are much worse but thankfully hidden under scarves & my wig when I'm out.

    Cheers,

    Jenni :)

  • I was in your position -couldn't stop scratching and scabs/rash all over scalp. I went to the chemist and he recommended an antihistamine. That really helped and I also washed my head with Cetaphil wash, dried it and applied something like vit e or sorbolene. If I had to cover my head then I would use my softest, cotton scarf. It cleared up pretty quickly - I recommend a trip to the chemist.Good luck,
