Thanks Kathy,
I self talk a lot - I did on the operating table, and I will do again - when ever it will help me. I am a little amazed at how the breathing exercises work so well. I am still doing it every day though to help me in any other matter which may be a cause for more nervous butterflies.
Just think that we are the lucky ones - being able to put ourselves in the hands of those experienced people who have treated patients like us on this journey before. As a former nurse, you have some experiences that you can perhaps remember to show you that there were other people as concerned about their health as you and I are today. Most people get through it okay, even though they aren't always sure that they will.
I am not sorry about the port, though when you are told "all you feel" is not strictly true. It doesn't hurt, though there will be some new sensations and just knowing it is there, it is not just like a canula in the arm/hand. To me it feels a bit weird. None the less, it can't be as bad as having a canula put in every time, now can it??
Take care, Spring is in the air..
Sandy xx
