Indigestion

Hi All I'm at day 10 after my first chemo and coping well. I've experienced the fatigue, nausea, sweats and now, indigestion. The latter 'kicked in' at day 7. The pain was quite severe, initially. I'm having smaller meals, more often and basically, just 'grazing', as my friend calls it. I'm finding this helps and that smoothies make digestion easier. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and can offer some advice. Thanks in advance! Tazza xoxo

  • Thanks Bel! I think it'll be Nexium for me, too. xoxo
  • I lost 6 kilos during my chemo because of the side effect I had from the Dex tabs.  It was rare, said my Onc, and it wasnt because of chemo, he said.  I put up with excruciating pain from indigestion for 5 hits of chemo, and it wasnt until I mentioned it on here, I got some advice to deal with it.  One of the lovely ladies on here said they put her on Nexium while she was having the Chemo and  "poooof"  a magic wand was waved and I could eat.  I went on a low acid, now sugar, no meat diet, no carbohydrates and only fruit and smoothies, soup before hand for the first week.  Of course it was a side effect of Dex!  XX Bel

  • Will most definitely follow up on that one, Janey. xoxo
  • Like Deanne and Hazel, I did suffer badly from heartburn and indigestion with my first chemo. My oncologist also prescribed Nexium to take daily and I didn't suffer at all. However I did get hiccups a lot too. Nexium did the trick for me :) Love Janey xxx
  • Thanks so much Deanne & Hazel! I will most certainly discuss it with my physician at my next chemo session which is scheduled for 12 Feb - my Onc is in Brisbane and only visits our regional area from time to time. I haven't had the hiccups, Hazel, so that is a bonus.

  • I was getting indigestion after every chemo, like you, I was just eating smaller meals and eating a lot slower. I put up with it for 3 treatments. I did mention it to my oncologist at the 4th treatment and she asked if I also had the hiccups, I did, so she has put me on reflux tablets. They really helped, I found flavoured milk also didn't give me grief. Don't know if this helps, take care,
