i have a new best friend

Had my first chemo session and port access today. I was so scared that accessing my port would be really painful especially because its only been in for 1 week and is still tender. Thanks to emla cream 3 hours beforehand and a painkiller, all i felt was a small sting and that was it.Was so surprised how easy and painless the whole procedure was. I was one of the lucky ones with the port just under the skin and easy to access. Bout time something went my way. So for anyone waiting for this to happen hopefully your experience will be like mine. Everyone was really nice and i got so much info on everything possible now its a waiting game to see what side effects will hit me. Feeling really tired right now but had to do my post before i go to bed. Love to everyone- Sue x

    Glad to hear that all went well with your port but not so glad that yesterday wasn't a particularly good day for you. I would probably imagine that today isn't so good either. But you are right about it being better day by day. This is where the saying "one day at a time" really comes into play. Keep drinking plenty of water to flush out your system and try and do a little bit of exercise even it is just walking up and down for a few minutes. It really helps. Hang in there Sue.     I think that next tues wil be much better for you. I feel pretty yuk today up at 4am on the toilet and really bad headaches and hot and cold temps. Feel a little nausia too. But hopefully the tablets will keep that at bay.Anyway i am sure it will get better as the days go by. My stitches come out next tues so i will be thinking of you too. Take care Suex

    And l'm so happy your experience was nothing like mine!! I've gotten quite lucky as far as side effects go, no nausea at all which is great! I was laying at the hospital waiting for everything to happen, but realistically l was so full of pre-meds that there was little chance. I just felt quite hot, & got a bit headachey. I can now feel my port under my skin without pressing at all, hopefully next Tuesday will go smoothly for me!!!
