Hysterectomy Done

Had the full hysterectomy, successfully done laproscopically, on 20 July. Feeling pretty good. Had expected to have more pain but managing with just regular panadol. Turns out this was one of the best timed decisions ever made! Pathology/histology results showed I actually had 3 different types of tumpurs - 2 common types and one very rare type. But the best news was that all were benign!!! Had massive amount of scar tissue and adhesions, even though only previous surgery there was 3 caesars, also lots of fibroids and multiple cysts on both ovaries, my uterus was more the twice the size it should have been nd I had endometriotis (hadn't known this till now). Surgeon took pics and gave me copies. Told me I had timed this right as things could have turned nasty somewhere down the track. And the silver lning, no need to have ny more pap smears - LOL. I feel like have have been so lucky this time and know it is just a slow recovery from here. :)

  • Should have mentioned that the surgeon's speciality is gyn oncology so pretty sure he knows what he is telling me is accurate, for my particular case. Thanks for your concern everyone. I will double check when I next see him - to confirm. :)

  • He said he removed a small part of the cervix to check for any abnormalities there - all good. So no need for pap swears in my case any more.

  • Yayyyyyyyyy for excellent timing!!! Isn't it wonderful the things they can do laparoscopically nowadays. Also wonderful that your tumors were benign!! Congratulations - here's to a fantastic recovery. Xx Cath

  • Do glad your recovery is going so well and this part is now done and dusted.

  • Hi Tracy

I had total hysterectomy back in 2004 and I need to still have Pap (vault) smears I would be checking with your surgeon.

I know it would be nice not to but better safe than sorry   so to speak.

like you I had edo etc and didnt know until after my surgery. I have never looked back.

    rest recoup and go forward

  • It is fantastic that the surgery is behind you and that younhave such a fantastic result - really happy for you.

By the way, has the surgeon told you you do not need pap smears? Only asking as with majority of hysterectomies cervic remains and as long as there is any part od cervix remaining I have been told pap smears are still necessary...

    Cheers
