Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Has anyone explored Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy alongside radiation or chemo?
  • Yes, this is all very interesting, its a subject I am going to bring up with my oncologist on March 1st, the new RAH has the facilities to have 20 patients using this type of treatment at the same time,  a friend of mine who has pancreatic cancer, she is 12 months now since diagnosed and currently on a clinical trial chemo, actually purchased one for herself and has been using it, she says she feels good, not sure what my oncologist will say but will let you know, the info I found on the internet stated that people with MS and Diabetes can use it.If you look up Royal Adelaide Hospital/hyperbaric chamber, you will find information there, anyone can use these machines you just need a referral from your specialist,

  • Hi @Afraser I read the article you sent the link to - it actually also advocates for HBO treatment on irradiated skin. Admittedly it does specify 'mandible' i.e. On the jaw.
I'll definitely pass on any info I get x
  • I have never heard of hyperbaric used for breast, but have had radiation patients to other areas use it
  • Be interested to hear how it goes, it's always fascinating when treatment designed for one thing turns out to be beneficial for another.
  • thanks @mum2jj I have done quite a bit of reading on it and it's all mostly positive. I'll definitely ask my BS and PS and oncologists about it.
  • My breast surgeon who wanted me to have implants after my mastectomy said he had great success in healing and no infection on ladies who had 6 weeks of hyperbaric treatment prior to recon after radiation. I ended up going to a plastic surgeon who recommended a TRAM and so didn’t end up having this.
