Hypafix

Good morning to everyone.   I just have a question.  I was advised by my team to keep Hypafix on my mastectomy scar for 4 months and to change once a month.  I have absolute faith in what they say but just like to hear from others as it does seem a long time.  Also if they decide for me to go ahead with Rad Therapy is the Hypafix removed.  Thanks.
  • Hi there I have never heard of hyperfix sorry.
    For radiation we do ensure that the scar is sufficiently healed before going ahead. You cannot have anything on the skin during treatment (unless it's the mepitil film we specifically put on)
  • Thanks for the info ladies,
    @primek
    Hope everything well with reconstruction and things settling down.  Its one thing after the next.   Have a great day. xox
  • They could be changed when needed. It does provide good support to a wound.  You shower with it and it dries out. I had small strips on for 10 days until sutures out only.
    I used it with my nipple reconstruction recently so was wearing it for 7 weeks but was changed every 3 to 5 days as I was managing healing ftom infection.
  • A lot of different products can be used for scar management, this is one of them. I believe they are now recommending keeping them on for longer timeframes to minimise scarring.  I'm not convinced that any product would stay on for a month af a time. We used to use similar products on burns and grazes, and they didn't stay on much longer than a week or 10 days at best. Mind you, these were often on knees and hands, and other very exposed parts of the body.

    As far as having it on during radiotherapy??? Not sure, but suspect not. Do you have a breast care nurse you could speak to?
  • Thanks @Sister ,    It does seem a long time.  Hopefully will hear from someone from this forum who has had it..
  • I don't know if I had hypafix so can't comment. Sounds a very long time though. Whatever I did have wasn't on for very long.
