Hurry up already!
From my Facebook blog;
THE FINAL FRONTIER - RADIOTHERAPY
THE FINAL FRONTIER - RADIOTHERAPY
Time is going slow now that I'm headed toward the chequered flag!
Number 19 of 25 today.....The staff in the radiation suites are AMAAAAZING! Always cheery and smiley!
Yesterday ( and everyday) i was greeted with the usual bright and bubbly Good Morning! but this time one of the girls' commented "Oops! Was that a bit too happy?" My reply....."Absolutely NOT!!!"
I explained that they were the Queens of Happiness....their cheery demeanour makes going into that bunker that little bit easier....This is such a stressful and sometimes lonely time and I explained to have such beautiful souls looking after me makes my day!
So today we greeted each other with a Royal Wave had a giggle and then got on with the serious business of zapping me with some more cancer killing death rays....
I tried to figure out just how long the radiation is delivered and my best guess is that I hold my breath for 5 or 6 times during the session and the rays are delivered for a period of 20 seconds while I hold my breath......I tried to count today, but my scatter brain got side tracked by the music they were palying so I actually lost track.....so I guestimate that I recieve about 1min to 1min 20 secs of radiation each session. I do this every day! *sigh*
While it seems too short to really do anything....I am now am feeling the fullblown effects of this treatment.......I am super tired somedays, to the point of dizziness... I cannot swallow properly now, so baby pieces or soft food for me.....My voice is croaky and I feel the need to constantly "clear" my throat.....
The burns are getting more intense. I saw my Radiation Oncologist today who assured me that I was doing really well and after examining me, also assured me that my burns weren't that bad......I agreed I'd seen worse, but then he corrected me by saying what he meant was that mine would get worse still......He explained that the full extent of the burns won't show until upto 10 days AFTER my last treatment!!! I was a bit taken aback by this as I am fairly burnt now!
More burn has now appeared under my arm, more across my chest and under my breast....I am glowing a nice shade of fluro pink/red!.....I can only feel a small area of them thank goodness.....I can only imagine what it would feel like if I could feel it all! I apply so much Moo Goo, which I have been using since my lumpectomy in January (brilliant stuff! check it out at moogoo.com.au) ..that I think I should be a V.I.P shareholder by now! I slather it on and within minutes my thirsty skin drinks it up....But I will do anything it takes to keep my skin as healthy as possible...
6 more to go! I can't believe active treatment is nearly over!!!!
This week and next can't go quick enough....
