How Young Is Young?

Hello

I was diagnosed with some sort of IBC a few days ago. I will be starting chemo soon and will likely lose both my breasts directly after.

I turned 22 in October 2011.

I'm lucky enough to have the most supportive partner EVER (OK, I may be slightly biased) who is 28m and who has never had to deal with anything like this before. Is there support out there for someone like him?

It's certainly already very scary without taking in to account that there are very few women near my age going through the same thing. Staying positive until the remainder of the test results come through though. I'm adamant my mid-life is still many years away but hope... wares...thin.

  • Thanks Silly Sam. I looked for you on Facebook but nothing came up? My name is Dora Pizzolato...  I'm probably the only one there in NSW if you're able to add me instead?   ;)

Many of my friends are 35 and under, so I'm sure I will be able to relate to older women. Unfortunately it appears there is certainly no one my age with advanced inflammatory breast cancer, but I suppose the less the better!

    Again thanks

    Hi SqueakyPea,

Welcome to the online network, we are very glad you found your way to and around the site and we hope you can find it helpful to connect with others who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

You mentioned support for your partner - There is an online partner support group which you can find here - http://www.bcna.org.au/group/22285. This group is public but a good way to find other partners for support!

If you have any questions, just shout!

  • Hi SqueakyPea,

I too am sorry you have been diagnosed with this horrible thing. I agree with Kathryne about talking to your breast care nurse for help on a support group for your parther - also one for you. This site is great for all of us, though there is nothing like having someone close to talk to about what you are going through.

Yes, I have to agree also about the crying. You are young, and vunerable right now so cry and let it out. The tears may not stop for a while, so don't think of yourself any less.

You may want to also check about doing something with your eggs before starting chemo if you have time. I wish you all the very best in this journey.

My thoughts and prayers with you

    Sandy :)

  • Dear SqueakyPea,

I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis I know it is such a scary time as you wait for all your test results to come in and then travel the road to treatment. It sounds like you have a wonderful partner to hold onto at this difficult time, keep communicating with each other as this is very important. I am not sure where you live but if you ask your Breast care Nurse she should be able to guide you to a support group.  Remember to be kind to yourself and allow yourself to cry if you need to. Your in my thoughts and prayers.

    Kathryne
