how soon can you colour your hair

Hi Ladies,

I haven't posted for a while, I finished all active treatment on March the 11th then I had my ovaries and tubes removed as a precaution on the 17th of March my surgeon wanted to get it done quickly before I came out of temporary menopause, I am glad I had it done as my risks of reocurrance were largely reduced but the surgery was worth having my surgeon is awesome I have my first 3 monthly appointment this month and I have been on Aromasin since the 24th of March I am just trying to get back to normality sometimes I struggle with that but I suppose that's normal we breeze through our treatment as best we can and then it's over and it's like what now but I am enjoying not having constant doctors appointments.

I am just wondering how long you have to wait to colour your hair, I have allways coloured my hair at home but I had long hair then lol, now short a little curly and I want a change I suppose a new me but I'm a little worried to do it at home incase it goes horribly wrong, leave it to the hairdresser I think but my question is I finished Chemo on the 11th of January 2016 I was told by my breast nurse to wait 6 months but my godparents are arriving from Melbourne on the 9th of July, their son had bc he's in his 4th year post treatment, I haven't seen my godfather who is like my dad for 15 years I suppose if I get it colored now is it too soon? any advice for me.

Sending big cuddles, positive vibes and huge smiles.

  • Hi Anita, hope that you are doing well!  I had radiation to the back of my neck and lost hair!  All great now!  I have X used Herbalife from the health food shop!  It is fantastic!  All natural!  My sister in law did it for me the first time! Easy as and no awful chemical smells!  If you can get near a health shop it might be worth a go!

    Warmest wishes Sandra x

  •  I coloured mine as soon as I thought it long enough - probably 4-5mths and haven't had an issue.  I have read others recommending henna colours, but I went full noise at the hairdresser using what I used to pre chemo.

  • I coloured mine as soon as I could... Prob at 3 mths.  I did go to the hairdresser though.  I went with the semi the first couple of times, but then back to permanent. I felt I was way to young to be grey yet.

    Good luck.

  • Hi Anita,

Welcome back, it's lovely to see you pop in and say hello. I'm sure the wonderful members will have some advice for you soon.

Sending positive vibes right back to you :) xx

  • in look good feel better workshop we were told takes at least 3.months post end ofnChemo for any colour to take but they also suggested running a test on a small patch 1st as there is not rule as such and some take longer for the colour to take...

  • I haven't  been there but I am sure it wouldn't be too soon. Pethaps talk to a hairdresser about it. Perhaps a semi permanent might be more gentle to the scalp. Kath x
