How lucky am I?

Hi Everyone,

Today, on the anniversary of my last TCH chemo treatment, I had my port removed. I have had my treatment in the public system at Box Hill Hospital. Today reminded me of just how lucky I am. The staff I have encountered at this hospital throughout my treatment have been second to none. From oncology staff to the radiography staff to the ward clerks and receptionists and every other staff member I have had to deal with.  Aside from their professionalism, which you would expect, every person I have dealt with has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Their support, empathy, friendliness and genuine care of me has been nothing short of amazing. What decent, wonderful people they all are and just how lucky am I to have been in the care of these amazing people?  The general public tend to glorify sportspeople and make them heros.  Well, I must say, the staff at Box Hill Hospital are my heros. We are so fortunate to have such wonderful health care available to us all.

hope you are all travelling well . Karen xox

  • Congratulations on another anniversary.  So glad you were not only well looked after, but also are showing gratitude.  It is sometimes so easy to get caught up in the bad things, that we forget to be grateful for the good stuff. I am trying to practice gratitude more in my life.I did the hapmper thing when I finished chemo also :)

    Hope you are travelling ok.

  • Thanks Rowdy. I'm doing ok thanks. That's so disappointing for your friend. It really does makes a huge difference if you feel you are being listened to and that the staff actual care about you. I made a massive hamper for the staff to say thanks on my last treatment. They were thrilled xx

  • We really are just so lucky. I will never be able to thank them enough xx

  • Hi great to hear you have had your port out, another milestone. I'm so glad to hear you were well looked after during treatment. I have a friend who has gone through  public and has had nothing but grief she has felt that no-one listened to her. So it is so nice to hear the positives and the staff would love that you thanked them all.

    Hope you are travelling wellx

Hi Karen, I agree with you totally. My experience of surgery, chemo and rads has been ddifficult, as everyone experiences, but the shining light is the nurses, reception staff, doctors and radiation technicians. They must encounter such astounding and sad things, however are always welcoming, kind and upbeat. It helps you to manage through all the treatment. I named the nurse at my radiology unit Mary the Marvellous, as that is what she is. How lucky are we to have such experts to support us through the most difficult challenges in our lives. I've been given a second chance at life with the support of these angels. Big cuddles, Trace ??????
